Hundreds of people demanded justice for the 19-year-old Dalit girl, Kajal who was gang-raped and murdered in Gujarat's Saira village.

In Gujarat's Modasa, a 19-year-old Dalit girl was found hanging from a banyan tree in Saira village days after she went missing. The girl's family alleged that the police refused to file an FIR on January 1st, the day the girl went missing when they were approached by the family members. The girl's sister revealed that the girl was lifted into a car by Bimal Bharwad warning her to not speak to anyone about the incident. A CCTV also confirmed the statement. The inspector had informed the family on January 3rd that she had married a boy from their community and will return soon and said that it was not in their jurisdiction the next day, as per a report published on The Wire. It was on January 5th that her body was found hanging by a priest, which was identified by her grandfather. The girl's grandfather filed an FIR against Bimal and the family refused to take the body of the girl from the Ahmedabad civil hospital until the culprits were arrested. Hundreds of people joined them in their protest outside the civil hospital demanding justice by arresting the culprits and also suspending the police officers.
