Happy Republic day! This year India is celebrating it's 70th Republic Day. Republic Day honours the date Constitution of India came into effect. The Indian Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on 26th January 1949 and a year later in 1950 it came into effect, officially replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.
Republic Day celebrations are held every year in the capital city, New Delhi with ceremonious Parade taking place at Rajpath in front of President of India.
Here are a few things we all must know about 2019 Republic Day Parade.
1. Every year there are two types of Republic Day Parades
a) Delhi Republic Day Parade: Organised by the Ministry of Defence, the Parade showcases Indian Defence's Culture, Heritage and Strength. It comprises of various regiments of Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, Civil Forces and various para military forces contingents participate.
b) Beating Retreat Parade: It is conducted on January 29th, third day after the Republic Day. Parade is performed by the bands of the three wings of the military, the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force
2. As a ritual to the Parade, The President of India who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, takes the salute.
3. Republic Day parade lasts for three days.
4. The Parade commences from Rashrapati Bhawan i.e President's house
5.. This year, Chief Guest for the Republic Day Parade is President Cyril Ramaphosa from South Africa.
6. As a protocol, the convoy of President's Bodyguard,an elite household cavalry regiment of the Indian Army escorts the President to the dias at the ceremony and give the order to begin national anthem.
7. The 100 year old incidence of Jallianwala Bagh massacre, will be the theme for Punjab''s tableau this year. It is the third time in a row that Punjab''s tableau has participated in the ceremony.
8. For the first time, an all-women Assam Rifles Contingent will march to celebrate the 70th Republic Day.
9. This year, Indian Air Force, will be flying the aircraft that runs on blended bio-fuel. The aircraft will fly over Rajpath with a ‘V’ shape formation resembling ‘Victory’ sign.
10. Since the year 2019 marks 150th birth day of Mahatma Gandhi, a tableau will be dedicated to remembering him
11. First time in the history, 4 veteran soldiers aged above 90 years, who are part of the ‘Azad Hind Fauz’ will take part in the parade.
12. This year, the Daredevils Motorcycle Team will also include a women officer in the team.
13. Also for the first time, a woman officer would be leading the Army Services Corps in the 2019 Republic Day parade.
70th Republic Day Celebrations will definitely witness quite a few firsts, and lot of women power, that is empowering in all sense.
