Suparn Varma’s courtroom drama on the famous Shah Bano case seems to have struck a chord with the Janta and the box office collection is proof!
Directed by Suparn Varma and produced by Baweja Studios, Haq takes its inspiration from the historic Shah Bano case. In the film, we see Yami Gautam play Shazia Bano and Emraan Hashmi play Ahmed Abbas Khan, her husband. What starts out as a fairytale love story quickly turns into a battle for equality and asking for your rightful haq. When Shazia asks for child support after she separates from her husband, he abuses the triple talaq and hides behind his religion to avoid accountability and hence begins a forever battle between the two that divides the nation with its opinions.
Haq collected an estimated Rs. 3.75 crore net in India on Sunday, taking its first weekend domestic total to Rs. 8.85 crore. The film had an opening of Rs. 1.75 crore, and with a 91% spike on Saturday, it brought in Rs. 3.35 crore. It also earned Rs.7.50 crore worldwide in its first two days of release. The film is yet to see if the box office sustains this entire week.

The Janta was all praises for the cast and felt the story had a strong message to give!
Haq is an extremely well made movie. It’s a mature piece of art from the start to end, a terrific job through and through.

#haq a movie with a soul. It’s a mature masterpiece bringing forth a story buried in the history@yamigautam has played the challenging role with ease, subtle yet powerful character. @emraanhashmi has the more difficult role to play. Not overly villainous but an entitled man. pic.twitter.com/Mlf6uwkyG5
