Saiyaara now holds the record for the biggest opening day ever for a Bollywood film led by debutants. It surpassed the record set by Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter's Dhadak (Rs 8.76 crore) in 2018.

Mohit Suri and YRF’s latest romantic film, Saiyaara released last Friday and has taken the box office by storm. Starring debutant Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the film has delivered one of the biggest opening weekends for the year. Directed by Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain fame Mohit Suri, Saiyaara depicts a love saga between Vaani, a journalist-poet, and Krish, a passionate musician, who find solace and love amidst their contrasting lives. The film also marks Suri’s career's best opening.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has crossed a staggering Rs. 80 crore mark in its opening weekend despite it being headlined by newcomers and being a regular weekend. The early numbers of the movie are at par with those of films like Pathaan, Jawaan, Gadar 2, Stree 2 and Chhaava.

Saiyaara performed impressively right from the onset, collecting Rs. 22 crore on Friday, and 26.25 crore on Saturday. The film’s collection skyrocketed with a whopping figures of Rs. 35.75 crores on Sunday thanks to the positive word of mouth around the film. The total weekend collection of the film stands at Rs. 84 crores.

With the re-releases of Sanam Teri Kasam (Rs 35.55 crore) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Rs 22.04 crore) raking impressive figures earlier this year, Saiyaara reiterates the audience’s revived interest in romantic films.
