not an akward interview

Laughs, awkwardness and a genuine connection, Aishwarya Mohanraj's Netflix show, Not An Awkward Interview, is a no-brainer entertainer you cannot miss.

What is it about watching two people have a conversation that’s so captivating? With the podcast industry taking off, it seems there are reasons for this fascination. There’s just something about seeing people interact and share their stories that really resonates with us. It gives us a chance to dive deeper into topics we might never consider otherwise. And not every interview has to be serious. Sometimes it’s the lighthearted chats that draw us in and make our lunch or dinner time interesting. Aishwarya Mohanraj’s show, Not An Awkward Interview, is a perfect example of this.

Not An Awkward Interview is like a safe space for introverts, bringing all those times we've encountered awkward conversations. You know, those moments when you crack a joke to break the ice only for it to flop, or when you’re about to say something and get interrupted, totally leaving you hanging. We’ve all imagined ourselves interviewing our favourite celebs, thinking we’d be super cool, but the fear that we would fail miserably exists deep down. Aishwarya, on the other hand, totally leans into those awkward moments and makes them funny.

She’s built an entire Netflix show around her unique, awkward charm, chatting with stars who are mainly there to promote their latest projects. Her show totally brings to mind those fun interview series like Amelia Dimoldenberg's Chicken Shop Date, Zach Galifianakis's Between Two Ferns, and Ziwe's unique and quirky format. These hosts have really nailed the art of being a little weird, awkward and totally unhinged when they ask their guests questions. It makes for some seriously entertaining moments that keep the audience laughing and engaged. Just like them, if you’re new to Aishwarya's videos, the interviews might come off as a bit offbeat at first. But once you watch a full episode, you’ll see the fun in it. The jokes are often random and downright silly, and that’s what makes them work. By embracing her awkward girl persona, Aishwarya subtly pokes fun at those interviewers who snag big interviews but don’t really do their homework on their guests. She shows that interviews don’t always have to be serious or profound; they can just be casual conversations that are enjoyable to watch.

We have seen all kinds of guests making an appearance on her show. Whether it is Ranbir Kapoor, Aditi Rao Hydari or Rana Daggubati, Aishwarya’s approach stays the same even if her guests come from different backgrounds which makes each episode intriguing. Her recent episodes with Emraan Hashmi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui arethe perfect example of how awkward and hilarious these are. They both managed to roll with her quirky antics while trying to appear like the serious actors they are. You see her bursting into laughter, which is more of a snort, breaking the space between her questions with a random tiger and soft toys on a guest's lap and even asking Hashmi to explain the plot of his show in ten seconds while actually counting down the time. Not to mention her calling back on an iconic moment with Malika Sherawat, who is also Hashmi's co-star, commenting on her ring that fans couldn't help but point out. Siddique, on the other hand, matched her energy brilliantly, ending up in stitches like the rest of us.

Not An Awkward Interview embraces the humour in awkwardness and showcases why authentic conversations will always have an audience. By leaning into the unexpected moments and allowing her guests to show their true selves, the show thrives on Aishwarya’s relatable awkwardness, making us laugh with her quirky jokes and lighthearted banter. It's pure, simple fun!
