After being embroiled in legal controversies over its release, Bhool Chuk Maaf finally hit theaters on Friday and has been performing impressively at the box office.

Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s rom-com Bhool Chuk Maaf has been performing considerably well at the box office since its release on Friday. After a decent opening, thanks to discounted tickets and promotional offers on Friday, the film, which faced several obstacles with regards to its release, is now inching closer to the Rs. 30 crore mark, surpassing lifetime collections of some of Rao’s previous films, including the 2017 film Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, which earned Rs. 17 crore.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Bhool Chuk Maaf opened with a collection of Rs. 7.20 crore on Day 1, followed by Rs. 9.81 crore on Day 2. By Day 3, the film saw a further rise, collecting Rs. 11.70  crore bringing its total domestic net collection to Rs. 28.71 crore within the opening weekend.

The makers and exhibitors of the film got into a legal tussle after the producer cancelled the theatrical release of the film and announced its OTT release for May 16 owing to the India-Pakistan tensions. This led to multiplex giant PVR INOX filing a Rs. 60 crore lawsuit against Maddock Films, citing a breach of contract. Eventually, the movie hit the big screens on May 23.

Helmed by Karan Sharma, Bhool Chuk Maaf also features Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, Raghubir Yadav, and Zakir Hussain. As the weekdays approach, it will be interesting to see if the film sustains its momentum and manages to rake up exciting numbers at the box office.
