#LetsKetchup: Despite high expectations, these shows failed to live up to the anticipation, leaving the year 2024 for OTT platforms on a disappointing and disheartening note!
If someone were to dissect this year in OTT content, they would likely conclude that it was a year of big promises that ultimately fell flat. While many series managed to be moderately entertaining—neither remarkable enough to leave a lasting impression nor bad enough to completely disregard—a few high-profile shows failed to live up to the hype. Despite boasting ensemble casts, rich legacies, promising storylines, and larger-than-life narratives, these much-anticipated series ended up disappointing more than they entertained. In an already deficient year for OTT platforms, which seem more focused on churning out quantity over quality, this only added to the overall discontentment.

With the endless stream of content at our fingertips, it's understandable that we become selective about what and when to watch. However, some shows, like Call Me Bae, Mismatched Season 3, Sunflowers 2, Maharani Season 4, Taaza Khabar Season 2, and Dil Dosti Dilemma had built such high anticipation that their near-misses felt even more disappointing. Yet, they still managed to save themselves from completely falling apart unlike others who despite being backed by big-name filmmakers, intriguing plots, and well-established legacies, failed to meet expectations, leaving us with underwhelming, jumbled versions of what could have been breakthrough exceptional storytelling!
Here are some shows that ended up disappointing us in 2024!
Heeramandi- Netflix
To say that this SLB's debut on OTT was a complete fail would be wrong but it desperately craved for his midas touch because depite every piece falling in line and making it a pop culture phenomenon, there was a lot missing to make it a grand opulence spectacle to be remembered for ages and that is something you don't expect from Sanjay Leela Bhansali!
Mirzapur season 3- Amazon Prime Video
Looking at the season in silos one could say that it wasn't as bad as it was regarded to be but when you add a wait of almost five years for a sequel of a show that made OTT a phenonemeon in India, this was a disappointment!
Indian Police Force- Amazon Prime Video
What could be more original, formulaic yet arrestingly entertaining than Rohit Shetty bringing in a whole cop-verse in a series? Alas the show is nothing more than a constant repetition of what we have seen Shetty do with a police force story and not even in an engagingly entertaining format!
Citadel Honey Bunny- Amazon Prime Video
It's saddening to admit that the duo of Raj and DK were unable to deliver a show that is both bingeable and innovative, but it’s the truth. This is likely the first time a series from them hasn't met the high standards they themselves set, and this is despite continuing the universe created by the Russo Brothers and featuring the cast it had!
Big Girls Don't Cry- Amazon Prime Video
Despite its promising plotline, set in a girls' hostel and featuring an ensemble of fresh, talented actors, this show ultimately failed to deliver on its potential. While it had moments of brilliance, particularly in certain story arcs and performances, the series fell short as a cohesive whole making it memorable only in parts, rather than as a fully engaging experience that lived up to its initial promise.
Gaanth- JioCinemas
A series inspired by the spine-chilling real-life Burrari murders should have been gripping, instead, it turned into a tiresome thriller. Rather than unraveling the mystery, it tangled itself into an even bigger mess, failing to deliver the tension and uncover some new depths expected of a haunting real-life case!
Pill- JioCinemas
Despite Ritesh Deshmukh delivering a strong performance in a new avatar, departing from his usual comedic roles, and a promising storyline that sought to expose corruption and hypocrisy in the medical sector, this thriller gradually lost its momentum and ended up being a missed opportunity as the plot slowly degraded and failed to maintain the tension it initially promised!
Tanaav Season 2 – SonyLIV
It’s astonishing that a series directed by Sudhir Mishra, based on the critically acclaimed Fauda and tackling the sensitive issue of Kashmir, ended up as a predictable and lackluster mystery. Rather than offering nuanced storytelling, it became a loud, heavy-handed mouthpiece, lacking the subtlety and tension required for such a complex topic.
Showtime – Disney+ Hotstar
Promising to unveil the dark secrets of the entertainment industry, this show had the potential to provide a gripping behind-the-scenes look. However, it devolved into an overly dramatic soap opera, offering little substance and failing to engage as a compelling insider drama.
Karmma Calling – Disney+ Hotstar
This Indian adaptation of a Western show struggles with an identity crisis! What tries to be a stylish revenge thriller ultimately plays out like a melodramatic soap opera, revolving around a woman’s vendetta against a wealthy, powerful family and far from the sharp, compelling narrative it aims to be.
