Coolie and War 2 box office report: Coolie mints Rs. 193.25 crores; edges out War 2 spy thriller over the weekend

Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie and YRF's War 2 clashed at the box office last weekend. Four days following their release, we have a clear winner!

The Independence Day weekend was nothing short of exciting for cinema enthusiasts as it witnessed the release of two of the most anticipated films of the year - War 2 and Coolie. Rajinikanth’s mass actioner locked horns with Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR’s stylish espionage thriller at the box office on August 14 and four days following their release, here’s a report of how the two films fared over the extended holidays. 

According to trade analyst Sumit Kadel, Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, collected Rs. 50 crores on its opening day, followed by a slight spike with Rs. 55 crores on Friday. The film’s pan India earnings, however, saw a decline on the weekend with figures of Rs. 30 crores, Rs. 29.5 crores on Saturday and Sunday repectively. The film’s total collection so far stands at Rs. 164.5 crores with its Hindi version outperforming the Telugu one.

According to Sacnilk, Coolie opened to Rs. 65 crores on Thursday and saw a slight dip in collections on Friday with earnings of Rs. 54.75 crores. The figures dropped consistently over the weekend with the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial minting Rs. 39.5 crores on Saturday and Rs. 34 crores on Sunday. The film’s total tally stands at Rs. 193.25 crores with collections of its Tamil version dominating the overall earnings.

The two actioners stormed into cinema halls amid unprecedented buzz, however the extended weekend collections of the two pan-India spectacles show Coolie (Rs. 193.25 crores) edging out War 2 (Rs. 164.5 crores) comfortably in this box office clash.
