From being a Hannah Montana girlie to falling head over heels for Troy Bolton from High School Musical, Disney movie songs have a grip over me like no other. Here’s why!
In the early 2000s, Disney Channel original movies like High School Musical, Camp Rock, and Hannah Montana didn't just entertain, they defined a generation. Their soundtracks became pop culture phenomena that spoke about themes of self-discovery, friendship, and ambitions. Sharpay’s ‘Fabulous’ from HSM 2 awakened the main character energy in me. Hannah Montana’s title track was my first sign that I had it in me to be a die hard fan girl. ‘Can I Have This Dance?’ with Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens made me feel like this is what love is all about! This is how magical it is supposed to feel. And lastly, Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas’ ‘This is Me’ from the Camp Rock movie made me feel like I could conquer the world any given day as well!
But these songs were not just a phase in my childhood, they are very much still a part of my life and take me back to the good old days! Sure, it’s the nostalgia that makes me keep going back to these albums but there’s also no denying that they’re bangers even today! They are songs that make you feel like you’re in a musical and at any given moment everyone around me is going to break out into a song along with a perfectly synchronized choreography. They are sometimes a much needed reminder for me that sometimes, life isn’t that serious after all!
Here’s why I’d let my hair down and dance to these songs like there’s no tomorrow!
Fabulous- High School Musical 2
Sharpay will forever be my spirit animal. From her hair band to her slippers, everything around her is pink and she defines being a queen bee! Fabulous is for every girl who thinks that this is her world and everyone else is just living in it!
This is Me- Camp Rock
How I wish I had a moment where I start singing in a competition where my favourite pop star is the judge and he starts singing with me on stage too! This is Me is a song to be sung out loud at the top of your lungs in your room when you feel like you want to conquer the world! It’s for every introvert girl who is just waiting to soar high in front of the world when she gets her moment!
We’re All in this Together - High School Musical 1
If you’re a part of a big group like the wildcats in the movie, this song is perfect for those late night jam sessions together! The track quite literally is a reminder that we’re all in this circle of life together!
Breaking Free- High School Musical 1
Breaking Free takes me back to the days of falling in love with someone for the first time. It feels good, it’s all about young love and it only makes you wish you could sing as good as Troy or Gabriella in the film do!
Best of Both Worlds- Hanna Montana
Best of Both Worlds is a simple trip down memory lane! Almost every girl I knew from school was a fan of the song. It played on Disney Channel right before I left for school. So every time I listen to it, even today, it takes me back to the day when I used to dance to this song in front of the TV while my grandmother fed me my lunch!
What Time Is It?- High School Musical 2
The perfect song to start summer with! I feel like as a kid I did not value summer vacations enough so now as an adult at least I can play this song from time to time so I feel like I have some sense of a summer vacation around me!
Get Your Head in the Game- High School Musical 1
Get Your Head in the Game just feels like a pep talk to oneself to get back on track, especially when I’m working and often get sidetracked by things I shouldn’t be!
A Night to Remember- High School Musical 3
As someone who has never experienced prom in my life, A Night to Remember is a fantasy for me that I wish came true. The lyrics describing exactly how prom night feels for boys and girls and the entire day brought to life on stage is a dance sequence for the books! Never have I ever been able to not shake a leg on this one!
Can I Have This Dance- High School Musical 3
Can I Have This Dance is a song so dreamy I wish to waltz on it on my wedding day with my husband! Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens bring their absolute A game to the choreography and their chemistry on-screen just makes this song so much better! I cannot listen to it without the entire sequence playing in my head every single time!
I Want It All- High School Musical 3
If there’s anything that Sharpay has taught me through her songs, it's to live bigger and better. The lyrics of the song are super catchy and has been my go to karaoke song ever since I heard it.
Introducing Me- Camp Rock 2
Introducing Me is the cutest way to ask someone out and let them get to know you in the span of 5 minutes. But the main highlight of the song isn’t even that, it’s how Nick Jonas managed to sing it in one breath, and you best believe I tried doing the same and terribly failed!
