Keeping up with new year resolutions is tough, but hey, there's no need to worry, as our on-screen heroes too might struggle to stick to them!
One week into the new year, and we’re barely out of the holiday slump. Yes, we’re slowly warming up to the syllabus or the mountain of work that we brushed behind the Christmas tree, but what’s worrisome now is the gradual loss of motivation to keep up with our resolutions for the year. The 'new year, new me' facade is wearing off, and most of us are finding excuses to order a burger instead of a salad, missing out on the outdoor activities we paid annual subscriptions for, or even worse, contemplating texting that ex who traumatized the entire friend group! However, if you’re feeling too overwhelmed by these commitments, don't worry, you're in good company. Even our favorite on-screen characters, with all their charm and heroics, would most likely be struggling to keep their promises to themselves.

So, here’s a look at our favourite characters who would give up on their resolution by the first week of January!
Circuit- Arshad Warsi (Munna Bhai MBBS)
Circuit, despite the problems he comes with, is the kind of friend we all need in our lives. Yes, he’s a bit rowdy, but we know he can swim oceans for his loved ones, however, if his new year resolution is to give up violence and embrace the ways of truth and peace, that’s something he’d probably give up within the first three days of January! One call from a distressed Munna (Sanjay Dutt) and we know Circuit would resort to ugly altercations and skirmishes to fix even the minutest problem.
Jagjeet Singh - Anu Kapoor (Dream Girl)
Jagjeet is a gem of a person, but the financial instability the Singhs keep facing often force him to take one loan after another. We feel this new year he will swear off borrowing, however, the moment a neighbor asks for a donation or a new religious function in their locality, he’ll be back at the banks or lenders’ door, thinking his contribution will please the money Gods and bless him with better days, forcing his son Karam (Ayushmann Khurrana) into yet another job where he has to lie, cheat and deceit his customers!
Amar is the kind of guy who can scale great heights if he channels his wit and charm towards a cause and works hard in life. But we know how much he loves doing the easy wrong over the tedious right, and even if he resolves to make it big through honest means, a shady, ‘become a millionaire in 2 days’ scheme with either Teja or Gogo’s gang members will lure him into quitting his job and getting his hands dirty yet again in a useless plan. We’re sure he will rope in his buddy Prem (Salman Khan) as well, and the know-it all duo would be in trouble again!
Nick- Saif Ali Khan (Salaam Namaste)
Nick might have gotten away with a lot for his ‘late latifi’ thanks to the consideration of those around him or the magic of his smile that conveys a forgivable innocence. However, given the highly competitive nature of the food industry, he might be determined to prove he’s a time respecting professional chef. But knowing our 'King of 5 more minutes', and casual procrastination, we’re sure he’ll snooze his high-tech alarm clocks multiple times to finally be terribly late at his restaurant yet again by January 3rd!
Geet- Kareena Kapoor Khan (Jab We Met)
We love Geet but even she’s aware that her impulsiveness needs a little bit of rethinking and something that she would want to work on this year. However, we have a feeling that within the first 24 hours she would just book tickets to Manali without consulting Aditya(Shahid Kapoor) and the next thing we know, the couple would be arguing over the need for the sudden plan and why it was bad idea for the two to have ice-creams right after a swim in the bone-chilling pool of the Himachali resort on Geet’s insistence- all while our sikhni from bhatinda defends her actions with conviction of a seasoned lawyer.
Rocky- Akshay Kumar (Deewane Hue Pagal)
To avert the kind of embarrassment he faced during a chance meeting with Sanju (Suniel Shetty) at a party in front of his love Natasha (Rimi Sen), Rocky, pledging to be honest about his profession, is something we hope for. But given his past, the moment he senses a job or romantic opportunity, he’ll go back to lying in his resume. However, thanks to the internet, employers and potential partners would know he isn’t an architect and isn’t remotely involved in designing Taj Mahal ke saamne wala Oberoi Hotel, Qutub Minar or any other fancy glass buildings!
Tanu- Kangana Ranaut (Tanu Weds Manu Returns)
Tanu loves the adrenaline of a good argument, and deems it as necessary for her as a good cup of coffee is for corporate employees. She might promise Manu (R Madhavan) she’ll work on her urge to make a hill out of mole this year, but all it will take is one unwanted comment from a relative to set her off. Totally expecting her to be hurling savage insults and sparking a full-blown brawl within her in-laws, only to later tell a tired Manu that she is simply fighting for her principles and that she’ll be more careful next time!
Commissioner Sahab- Manoj Pawha (Dabangg)
Given the level of commitment required for a police commissioner, administering the law and order situations in the areas of Uttar Pradesh, Commissioner Sahab would definitely want to discipline his eating habits and adhere to a strict diet plan this year. But given how much he loves his samosas, kachoris, and gulab jamuns, there is a one hundred percent chance that he would give into the aroma of chaats or the sight of freshly strained bhaturas on the night of New Year's itself!
Babbu Didi- Seema Pahwa (Ferrari Ki Sawaari)
Babbu Didi might resolve to refrain from giving her client false expectations regarding services she is offering as part of their wedding planning, keeping in mind the mountain of problems it created the last time involving Sachin Tendulkar’s Ferrari! However, old habits die hard and given how jugadu and money-minded she is, it is very likely that the boss lady, in the peak of this wedding season, would be caught in another hilariously high-profile mess simply because the client offered her a deal she couldn’t refuse!
Raghu- Nana Patekar (Taxi No. 9211)
Raghu's New Year might start with a promise to his wife that he’ll work on his temper and by assuring her that he’ll be more patient with his passengers and people in general. He might do some breathing exercises before accepting passengers in his car, but Mumbai's heat, bumpy roads, and traffic would shake Raghu’s determination to the very core. The second a luxury car cuts him off, or a passenger asks him to speed up, his anger will hit the roof, and he'll be out on the road engaging in a heated argument or skirmish with his offenders, simply because our angry old man has low tolerance for idiots on the road!
