Set centuries before the events of the original film, Kantara Chapter 1 sees Rishabh Shetty's Berme rise against an oppressive kingdom to defend his faith and people.

Rishabh Shetty’s much-awaited magnum opus, Kantara Chapter 1, the prequel to 2022 spiritual mythology Kantara, landed in theatres last week and is receiving mixed reviews from critics. While most of the reviewers pointed to narrative flaws and the slow pace of the film, they unanimously opined that it is one of the most visually stunning movies of the year. Kantara Chapter 1 explores the origin of the world of Kantara - the mystic forest and its guardian forces guliga and panjurli, and is set centuries before the events of the original film.

Since its release on October 2, Kantara Chapter 1 has been receiving positive reviews from the audience. While some are in complete awe of the climax of the epic and the way the VFX has been executed, others are also noting the way music has elevated certain high points of the scenes, especially Shetty’s performance in the second half of the prequel.

The positive word around the film can be seen translating into box office success as the film has collected Rs. 217 crore over the extended weekend. According to trade analyst Sumit Kadel, Kantara Chapter 1 is trending exceptionally well in South India, especially in Karnataka, even surpassing Yash's KGF 2. As far as Hindi collections are concerned, the magnum opus has raked up Rs. 68.50 crore so far.
