Who is Red Hulk? Everything you need to know about this new Marvel addition

If you are wondering and going through theories to understand who Red Hulk is before watching Caption America: The Brave New World, here’s what you need to know.

For every debate on Sam Wilson as the new Cap, we got to see him in red, white and blue standing tall and living up to the shield’s honour in Marvel’s Television series Captain America and The Winter Soldier. Sam has always been the more rational and one of the only ‘human superheroes’ in the Marvel universe. But ever since the trailer of the new Caption America: The Brave New World trailer came out, there was only one question people had. How would Sam try and defeat a very powerful and angry-looking Harrison Ford who turns red, literally? And most importantly, who is Red Hulk?

Who is Red Hulk?

It’s not uncommon for fans to assume and look at comic book characters who could be the next potential bad guy our heroes will have to fight. Watching Harrison Ford turn into a redder version of Hulk was definitely not on many of our lists. General Thaddeus E. Ross, aka Red Hulk, is a soldier who comes from a long lineage of military officers who rose to ranks in the US military. After his first war, he served as a Major; he was sent to the next, where he became a general in the U.S. Air Force. Ross then went on to command the missile base and nuclear research site in New Mexico and came to resent Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk. He hated the idea that a civilian was appointed supervisor of the gamma bomb project. Bruce falling in love with his daughter Betty, who he hoped would marry a military officer, added to his growing resentment.

What are his powers?

Red Hulk has superhuman strength (lifting 100 tons), stamina and durability and the ability to heal or regenerate from serious injuries within minutes. But unlike Hulk, his skin generates intense heat when he becomes angry, which can be released through his eyes. The film's director This heat is strong enough to melt through Spider-Man's webbing or turn sand into glass. Another one of his superpowers is the ability to absorb energies, notably gamma radiation and even Norrin Radd, AKA Silver Surfer's Power Cosmic.

His hate for Hulk

Ironically, one person Ross hates the most is Bruce Banner, aka Hulk. In his attempt to defeat the Hulk, he decided to experiment with gamma radiation resulting in him becoming the one thing he hated the most. But unlike Brunce, he also injected himself with a modified version of Super Soldier Serum that turned him into the now Red Hulk.

What can we expect from Sam Wilson and Ross’s Red Hulk in the new film? 

One thing is for sure, we will get to see a new duo rise up as Sam and his right-hand wingman Joaquin (Danny Ramirez), who will be the new Falcon, work together in their new superhero costumes. They will be trying to solve a new mystery surrounding brainwashed Super Soldiers. While on this journey, they will also have to deal with Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, a newly elected President who can shapeshift into the Red Hulk.

Ever since the shield was handed down from a juiced-up Steve to Sam, how this new version of the beloved characters will play out in the MCU has been a hot topic of discussion. Now that he is set to take on his first challenge as the superhero, one thing we can all agree on is that despite his disadvantage, we would love to see how he defeats the Red Hulk with zero superpowers. From what we can see in the trailer, it is well-established that he has upgraded his gears with wings that radiate sonic energy. Although Marvel can try and take on from the comics and give the character powers like telepathy, we can agree that adding that into this timeline would take away from the journey that Mackie has played so far.
