New Update
stranger things finale

Unlike die hard fans of Stranger Things who've been invested in this supernatural saga for the last decade, I binge watched this entire series last month and even I'd say that the Duffer Brothers did us dirty.

After finally giving in to peer pressure at work, I spent all of December on my couch, catching up on 5 seasons of Stranger Things from dinner until 3 am, only to be left fuming mad at the disaster that they call the finale, which released yesterday! Yes, it's hard to wrap up a series that's been around for a decade; you're playing with the hearts of a zillion dorks across the globe, character arcs need to come a full circle and the storyline needs to make producers happy. But when you're a series like Stranger Things that's quite literally breaking the internet over ten years, sadly, you don't have the option of cracking under pressure. Atleast that's the impression the finale gave me!

Here's everything that went through my head while watching the finale!

Where did em' demogorgons go?

We've watched these creatures torment the Party in Hawkins, season after season, only for them to have absolutely no screen time in the finale where we're shown their home planet? The same goes for the bats responsible for Eddie's death. WYA now, suckers?

Why was Karen done dirty?

After being portrayed as an overworked and overlooked 80's housewife who has no idea that the kids living in her house are literally fighting interdimensional monsters, Karen's character finally became meaty in Season 5 where she nearly died fighting a demogorgon and later, she killed a few to save Max, Robin, Lucas and Vickie but she was nowhere to be seen in the finale. How does one go back to being a good ol' friendly housewife after being such a badass?

What purpose did Holly and the children serve in the end?

We've followed Holly around all of season 5 across Henry's memories where she eventually leads all the children to safety but is given no footage once she's saved by her sister? We knew the Mind Flayer was gathering 12 children aka innocent minds to merge the two worlds but why 12? And how were they not traumatized?

Why haven't Will's superpowers been utilized well?

The episode where it's disclosed that Will the wise also has superpowers, is the highest rated episode so far in this saga; it was that big a plot twist! We understood that unlike El, Will was a sorcerer and siphoned his powers off Vecna because he was connected to him via the hive mind, a detail the finale fully forgot to utilize. Besides when he tries to change Henry's mind and helps weaken Vecna in one scene, Will and the hive mind have been utterly useless in the finale. So much for Vecna using him "one last time"! He wasted that on stalking Max? Are you for real?

This is when you want to introduce a new world?

The Duffer Brothers had 5 seasons, 42 episodes, and 10 years to develop this story and they waited until the second last episode to tell you that the Upside Down isn't an alternate dimesion afterall but a worm hole that leads to it. Why has a brand new world been introduced this late into a show? What does the Abyss even do? Who inhabitates it? We'll never know!

What was the point of bringing Kali back?

You're telling me she died waiting in the wings, helping El execute what this series called a "plan"? What a waste of her powers and all that personality!

Why is Erika kept out of the finale?

Her character has been built so well over the last couple seasons only to be left out in the finale. We also saw this happen to characters like Enzo, the russian guard, who played such a crucial role in season 4, only to have disappeared from the face of the Earth in season 5.

More Ekta Kapoor, less Duffer Brothers

Everyone knows it's the finale! We don't need constant reminders like characters crying, wondering when they'd gather again! Fight the damn Mind Flayer, you can weep after the shot! Nostalgia played a bigger character in this ridiculously important episode than the entire Party put together which so wasn't what we've yearned for! This was supposed to be the last crawl! Where was it?

How have you killed the Mind Flayer, something you've built up for ten years, in 10 minutes?

The entire show has been built around this big bad monster who has tormented Will to begin with besides all of Hawkins, only for us to find out that the beginning too was caused by the Mind Flayer and not El or Papa aka Dr. Brenner. But 10 minutes of facetime with Eleven, supported by the Party weakening this MIND flayer and he's dead meat? Are you kidding me?

Why did El not have a bigger role in the finale?

We've watched her struggle with her powers, her backstory and her vocabulary for 5 seasons, spent all of season 4 watching her remember what she had actually done, only to see her simply exist in the finale? Kali had more drive than her, man! Drink some gatorade, have some Eggos!

How is Ted this unattached after being gorged on by demogorgons?

Sure, he plays every other father who is detached, disinterested and ignorant of what's going on under his own roof! But how do you watch a portal open up in your house, almost get eaten by a demogorgon and still be this detached in the finale? If this also doesn't cause him any PTSD, I wanna be Tom, man!

Every fan theory was far more interesting and thought through than this epiosode

Do I even need to explain this further?
