New Update
Bollywood movies 2020

2019 was a great year for Bollywood. We saw some incredible films like Gully Boy, Uri, and Dream Girl. And these are only some of the good films that have released this year. Just like 2019, 2020 is also going to be one hell of a treat for all the Bollywood buffs.

Every year, we wait for certain films. We rush to the theatres with excitement, only to enjoy the cinematic experience that these films have to offer. 2020 is lined up with some amazing mainstream commercial films. Along with this, we will also get to see some freshly brewed content in different genres. 2020 is also going to be path-breaking for Bollywood as many CGI-heavy films will be making their way to the big-screens. It looks like Bollywood is finally ready to create content in Sci-Fi and adventure genres. Like every year, we will also see some mid-budget films that will take away all the limelight.

Hopefully, the wait will be worth it. Until then, here’s a list of the most anticipated films of 2020. These films will hit the screens with some fresh and meaty content and entertain you as always.

(I am praying that Bhramastra releases in 2020… Ab aur intezaar nahi hota ?)

Chhapaak: Releasing on 10th January

Why are we excited? Deepika Padukone plays the role of acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal in the film. The film is directed by Meghna Gulzar who has directed films like Raazi and Talvar in the past. In an interview, Deepika Padukone said that it’s her toughest movie, not because of the character she plays, but because of wearing prosthetics every day. Padukone has also turned producer for this film. Chhapaak also stars the very talented Vikrant Massey.

Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship: Releasing on 21st February

Why are we excited? Horror films in India don’t have a great reputation. They are often criticized for unwanted sexual content, bad graphics and poor storyline. But Bhoot seems to be an exception. Incredibly talented Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar will be seen in lead roles. This movie is surely something to look out for.

Street Dancer: Releasing on 24th January

Why are we excited? Remo D’Souza is back with yet another dance film, Street Dancer. One thing I know about dance movies is that they are endlessly entertaining. The film stars Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles. We’ve already seen their dancing talent in several films and we can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us. The film also stars Nora Fatehi in a pivotal role so expect a killer dance number coming your way. You’ll also see some talented dancers like Prabhu Deva, Punit Pathak, Shakti Mohan, Raghav Juyal Dharmesh Yelende breaking legs in the movie.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan: Releasing on 21st February

Why are we excited? Ayushmann Khurrana is on fire right now. He is the new hit machine of Bollywood. Whatever he does is sensational and revolutionary. And with Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Khurrana is going to up his game further as he will be essaying a role of a gay man. This will be the first time that any A-list Indian actor will be playing gay in the mainstream film. (Remember how everyone rejected Kapoor and Sons and the role went to Fawad Khan?) The makers have already released a quirky teaser and it has HIT and FRESH written all over it.

Gulabo Sitabo: Releasing on 28th February

Why are we excited? Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan will share screen space for the first time in Shoojit Sircar's Gulabo Sitabo. You can expect a combination of drama and comedy that will bring a wide smile on your face.

Angrezi Medium: Releasing on 20th March

Why are we excited? Angrezi Medium comes from the franchise of 2017’s sleeper hit, English Medium. The film stars Irrfan Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Radhika Madan in lead roles. It also marks the return of Homi Adajania as a director. With the way, the film has been cast and the promos so far, it looks like it’s going to be a family treat.

I wanted to do this film knowing it would be against the odds. I wanted to do it for all the wrong reasons to make a film but they just seemed so right and still do. It’s been an emotional roller coaster more than anything else and I know how hard it’s been for everyone. Irrfan Khan, you are incredible ... and you’re a decent actor as well ?. I love you more than I know how to say. Thank you to my crew and cast for not letting the odds stack up against us. I truly believe that our collective positivity and celebration of life allowed us this. Regardless of this film’s fate, it’s shown me a lighter way of being and I’ll always cherish this. ?? #itsawrap #angrezimedium #adioslondon @irrfan #iflifegivesyoulemonsgrabsometequila ? @harjeetsphotography @maddockfilms ? #dineshvijan

Sooryavanshi: Releasing on 27th March

Why are we excited? The film marks the union of action-star Akshay Kumar and action-director Rohit Shetty. That’s not it. The film belongs to a blockbuster universe of Singham and Simmba. The film also stars Katrina Kaif in lead role and I cannot wait to see Kumar and Kaif’s chemistry on big-screen again. Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn will make a special appearance in the film. With so many big names involved, one can only expect firecrackers on big screens.

83: Releasing on 10th April

Why are we excited? – The sports drama recounts India’s victory at the cricket world cup in 1983. This is one of those rare occasions where Cricket and Bollywood come together on such a grand scale. Ranveer Singh will be essaying the role of Kapil Dev and with all the promotional still coming out, I am sure he is going to kill it. Apart from Ranveer, we will also see Deepika Padukone, Tahir Bhasin, Hardy Sandhu, Pankaj Triphati, Amrita Puri and many more starry faces in supporting roles. The film is directed by Kabir Khan.

Brahmastra: Releasing in May 2020

Why are we excited? The movie is a sci-fi trilogy and is clearly one of the most awaited films of 2020. The makers even postponed the release date to summer’ 2020 stating that the VFX team required more time. If anything, the delay has only resulted in increasing the anticipation. With an elaborate star cast that includes actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy, the movie is definitely going to be huge. Shah Rukh Khan will also be making a special appearance in the film.

Coolie No.1: Releasing on 1st May

Why are we excited? When names like David Dhawan, Varun Dhawan and Sarah Ali Khan are attached to the film, you can only expect entertainment, entertainment and entertainment. The film already has a huge buzz amongst the audience. The two lead actors will also be seen recreating some of the most popular songs like Tujhe mirchi lagi toh, among others from the original film.

Radhe: Releasing on 22nd May

Why are we excited? Bhai’s film is releasing on Eid.

Laxmmi Bomb: Releasing on 22nd May

Why are we excited? Along with Salman, Akshay Kumar is also ready for Eid 2020. The film is a remake of the 2011 super-hit Tamil horror-comedy, Kanchana. Kumar will be seen playing a role of transgender. The actor is known for doing ‘hatke’ roles in his films and Laxmmi Bomb is probably his boldest move. Laxmmi Bomb revolves around Raghava, and the story follows the tribulations of a cowardly man who fears the supernatural, and then he gets possessed by the ghost of a transgender woman Laxmmi, who takes revenge on the ones who destroyed her life. This will be the first time Akshay will be doing a horror-comedy after Bhool Bhulaiyaa. The movie also stars Kiara Advani.

Sadak 2: Releasing on 10th July

Why are we excited? Mahesh Bhatt has returned to direction after years and Sadak 2 is all the more special as he will be directing his 2 daughters, Alia Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt. In 50 years of filmmaking, Mahesh Bhatt has directed some incredible films like Aashiqui, Saaransh, and Arth among many others. He is known to make melodramas and heartfelt movies, and Sadak 2 will be no exception. The film also stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. We know for sure that it’s going to be high on romance and drama. Considering it’s a Bhatt film, I am equally excited about the songs.

Shamshera: Releasing on 31st July

Why are we excited? Shamshera is an upcoming Indian action-adventure film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor. The film is produced by Yash Raj Films so we can expect the film being made on a grand scale. The film is about a dacoit tribe who takes charge in the fight for their rights and independence against the British. According to reports, Ranbir Kapoor will be playing a double role, as central character Shamshera and his father. If this film works, it will open new doors for Bollywood.

Bhuj: The Pride of India: Releasing on 14th August

Why are we excited? An interesting chapter of our history will be retold by an exciting cast which includes Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha. History movies, like most movies, have a huge audience, and a lot of these viewers are kids and families. People are drawn towards such films especially around Independence Day. Bhuj seems to be a promising film as not many people know about its history.

Jersey: Releasing on 28th August

Why are we excited? After the phenomenal success of Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor will be seen in another remake of a south film, Jersey. The original film was widely applauded for its storyline, acting, and father-son chemistry. The film was also a major success. Shahid has already started training hard to perfect his cricketing skills for the role. The film also stars Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role.

Gangubai Kathiawari: 11th September

Why are we excited? Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt will unite for the first time for ‘Gangubau Kathiawadi’. It’s going to be another biopic from the filmmaker, but this time about the madam of Kamathipura brothels, Gangubai. The film is going to be a lot different from other biopics as Gangubai had a very controversial life. With sports and historical biopics releasing every now and then, Gangubai Kathiawai could be a breath of fresh air.

Toofan: Releasing on 2nd October

Why are we excited? Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar return with yet another sports film, Toofan. The duo has initially worked together on a blockbuster film, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Farhan has been preparing for his role for months. So, get ready to see those chiseled abs all over again. Unlike BMB, Toofan is not a biopic but a fictional sports-drama. The film also stars Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal in key roles.

Dhaakad: Releasing on 13th November

Why are we excited? Kangana is ready to take on the big screen once again with Dhaakad. We’ve seen a bit of everything in action thrillers, except a movie centered on a ‘heroine’. Kangana Ranaut will change that with Dhaakad. The teaser of the film was released recently and it looked fresh and action-packed. If the film works, it will set a new benchmark for not only female-led movies, but also action films in general. Reportedly, the film will be shot across India, Sout East Asia, the Middle East and Europe and Ranaut will be playing a role of a spy.

Laal Singh Chaddha: Releasing on 25th December

Why are we excited? The film stars Aamir Khan. And if that’s not enough, the film is also an official remake of the Hollywood classic – Forrest Gump. Aamir Khan will be shown spanning across different age groups starting from his childhood to his fifties. Kareena Kapoor Khan will play her love interest in the film. Recently, the first look of the film was released and like always, Aamir didn’t fail to impress us. Atul Kulkarni has written the script for the film, which is directed by Advait Chandan (Secret Superstar fame).

Saina: Releasing in 2020 (Date not fixed)

Why are we excited? Saina is an upcoming 2020 Indian Hindi-language biographical sports film directed by Amole Gupte. It stars Parineeti Chopra who will play the titular role as Saina Nehwal. From mid-June, Chopra is training herself in playing badminton and practicing the stances of Nehwal. The buzz around the film is really high.

Apart from these 20 films, we are also excited about Kangana Ranaut starrer Panga, Mohit Suri’s directorial film, Malang, Imitiaz Ali’s untitled next, and Anurag Basu’s untitled next. Which film are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments section below.
