When you heard the words like secret, budget and travel you got excited, didn't you? And you should be too because, travel lovers, I am unleashing some of my awesome hacks for budget travels.

A little bit of storytime - I have got this travel bug during my trip to Mount Abu in Udaipur in 2016. So, I started going on a lot of trips after that, and I am always full of enthusiasm to discover new places, but money was always a constraint back then and still now because we were students with a little pocket money. Which is why I learnt how to plan budget travels.

So, without further ado, here are some secret tips for budget travels:

Pre-travel preparation - Yes, you have to take care of some things beforehand when you are going to plan a place to travel on a budget.

  • Book your tickets and hotels a month beforehand, if you are considering a faraway place. Even if not a ticket, make sure to book a hotel that is at least partially refundable for a month in advance. If after putting discounts and offers you are getting a good deal then definitely book it if you are planning to travel in that month.
  • Make sure to do a little google search of that place you are planning for three things - Climate, transportation system there and food. You should pack your bags considering these factors so that you don’t have to buy anything there impulsively due to urgent need in these three main categories. Also, make sure to pack your medicines, mosquito repellent cream and a first-aid kit.

  • Pack your shoes according to the place and make sure to carry an extra pair of shoes with you as you are going to walk a lot so you may get your boot broken there.
  • Put your money in 3 different places. Take some cash and save some in the bank and take a debit card. Make sure to have a sufficient amount in a debit card. Don’t carry credit cards with you.

Post-travel preparation - Now travelling doesn’t mean to spend all your money in a place just because you won’t find that thing that cheap again or you never get a chance to do something again.

  • You need to set a budget limit of your expenditures for that particular trip. If there are some rides or meals, make sure to choose combo ones as they save your money.
  • Set a budget for shopping as you will go mad after seeing new stuff there, but you have to take only for your family and friends. If you find something genuinely interesting than only you can spend money on it.

  • Enrol in free classes for different activities like yoga or outlets inviting you to try their diverse cuisine, this will be fun and will save you money too.
  • Communicate with locals there. This way you can get to know some excellent cheap places there for your fun and food but make sure to be genuine.
  • Try the speciality of that place in food even if it's not something you've had before or particularly like because of 2 reasons - one it will be cheap there, and second, it will be fresh. Eat only fresh food there so that you don’t get sick and that will save your money too.
