Our Little Secret review

Lindsay Lohan’s third Christmas movie with Netflix is probably her best one yet! Here's why!

Our Little Secret review: By now all of us are pretty aware of how Netflix is the flag bearer of Christmas movies every year. What started off as a guilty pleasure has now become one of the things I look forward to the most, and of course the giant streamer did not disappoint me this year as well. Lately, Lindsay Lohan has become the face of Christmas movies with Irish Wish, Falling For Christmas and now, with Our Little Secret, she has completed her Christmas streak with the platform.

Our Little Secret is about two exes who cross paths with each other 10 years later because their respective partners are siblings. So Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding) decide to keep their past a secret. But when they get to know the Morgan family as two outsiders, a whirlwind of things happen that lead the exes to grow closer again. The film is as no brainer as a no brainer can get. Please don’t wait with bated breaths for the climax because we all know how this one ends! But if you ask me what makes a Christmas movie work, the story probably would be last on that list. For me, it's mostly based on how comforting it feels, if I would ever revisit it a few years down the line and if it looks Christmasy enough. Luckily, Our Little Secret checked all three boxes for me on a Sunday night.

I have been watching Lindsay Lohan since I was in college. Be it Mean Girls or The Parent Trap, she always had an unmissable screen presence seemed lost over the past few years. With this film, I could see that spark again and she has proved yet again that she’ll always be the undisputed queen of chick flicks. The last time we saw Ian Harding was in Pretty Little Liars which was polar opposite from this film so it was nice to see him in a light-hearted story for once. But I have to say, the chemistry wasn’t chemistrying like you'd expect from a Christmas film. Sure, they were in love and they were each other’s best friends, which is what you want in a relationship. But there was no Bridgerton kinda angst between them that just made you want to scream at the screen and be like just get together already! Maybe I'm expecting too much out of a PG-13 Christmas movie!

Kristin Chenoweth as Erica, the matriarch of the family who kept everyone on their toes was hilarious AF! Her dog meant more to her than any of her children, she never aged in any of the family portraits which was borderline creepy, she’s the momster you don’t want to be around but she's also who brought the conflicts in the film that made it interesting to watch. The house that this movie is filmed in feels like something I’d want to have in my own fictional world where all my fantasies come true. They had a Christmas tree so huge and pretty, I know I can only think of owning that in my dreams. Every corner of the frame was lit up so beautifully with Christmas lights, even Avery’s bedsheets had Christmas trees on it. It was everything I’d ever want. Even the animation at the beginning of the movie adds to the coziness of the film.

Overall, Our Little Secret is set on the 'long lost lovers find a way back to each other' arc. It’s a movie that you can watch whilst snuggling into your blanket. And yes, I’d re-watch it during Christmas in the years to come solely to mark the fact that the season of hope and miracles has begun!
