Before picking your corporates, content creators help us break down everything you need to know about Maharashtra’s BMC Elections 2026.
After a long wait since the end of its tenure on March 7, 2022, and a long wait, Mumbai is finally gearing up to elect its new corporators on January 15, 2026. With 1,729 candidates for 227 seats, this election will be held with nine new wards, three in urban areas, three in western suburbs and three in eastern suburbs. Since 29 municipal corporators will see elections on the same day, the state government has declared a public holiday on January 15. According to the State Election Commission, the voting for civic election 2026 will take place on January 15 from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Most are aware of the candidates contesting for the elections but not everyone is aware of the alliance existing right now. While we know of some of the most prominent like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena-Shinde faction (SS)'s Mahayuti banner, the Thackeray alliance between Shiv Sena-Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led by Raj Thackeray and the Indian National Congress, which has entered an alliance with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) led by Prakash Ambedkar, there's a lot that might be confusing to the people. Thankfully, content creators are using their platforms to help their audience with information on everything they need to know about the elections.
