What was supposed to be a visit to Nepal turned into an experience that made Harry aka wehatethecold more than a vlogger; it made him a channel that gave the world updates from the ground.

A few weeks ago, the entire world was eyeing Nepal, not just for its beauty, mountains, and infrastructure, but for the historic uprising that inspired youths worldwide. What was labelled as a protest against social media bans was more than that. It was an uproar from Gen Zs taking over the streets, protesting and calling out their leader after years of corruption. The whole world closely watched as they burned down the parliament, caused the Prime Minister to resign, and elected their very first female Prime Minister, who also happens to be the first woman Chief Justice to hold that position. As praise followed, recognising it as a blueprint for youth globally, social media became our gateway to understanding everything that was happening. While we were here, scrolling through post after post, a British vlogger, Harry aka wehatethecold, accidentally turned into an on-ground reporter, documenting the protests.

Imagine travelling to a new country to experience the quiet, peace, and stories that the world has to offer, only to find yourself becoming a part of an event that has become a part of its history. Ironically, this is exactly what happened to Harry, a vlogger whose YouTube bio reads, "Throwing myself into weird situations to overcome fear." He was in Nepal as a part of his journey from Thailand to the UK on his moped when he unexpectedly stumbled into an anti-government protest. With a curfew in place and nowhere to go, Harry decided to stay in the country and film everything that was happening. He captured scenes of people throwing stones during the protest, vandalising and burning vehicles, and chanting slogans. He found himself in the midst of it all, sharing the unfolding events with the world.

Despite clarifying that he was not a journalist but merely a traveller with a camera and a bit of courage, people couldn't help but praise him. In a time when many media channels and publications were accused of providing only partial accounts of the protests, often portraying them as merely a response to the social media ban, he used his platform to shed light on the corruption and poor leadership that motivated Generation Z to take to the streets. You see him saying, “Tensions are high. I can’t believe what I am witnessing right now,” as he ran alongside the protesters with a helmet in hand, becoming part of both bravery and online memes. While some teased him as someone who "just wanted to be in Nepal for some peace," others appreciated his efforts to deliver a more accurate report of the situation.

Here's how people have been reacting to him:

Harry’s journey is a reminder of how unpredictable travel or even life online can be. What began as a personal adventure for him turned into a historical record, showing us the power that one camera, one voice, and the courage to hit “record” holds. As Nepal writes a new chapter in its story, Harry too has become an unlikely witness to history.
