Nykaa's Falguni Nayar and Adwaita Nayar spoke about 'Mom Guilt' while talking to Masoom Minawala on the first epsiode of her talk show

Being a Global Influencer, Entrepreneur, Investor and Author, Masoom Minawala has added another achievement to his list by launching her own talk show, The Masoom Minawala where she will be seen discussing topics that need to be spoken about more in today’s world, challenges that the guests overcame, their journey’s, how the new and younger generation can be inspired by them, among others. On the debut episode of The Masoom Minawala Show, Nykaa CEO Falguni Nayar and Nykaa Fashion CEO Adwaita Nayar opened up about their personal journeys. The discussion touched on a range of topics, including postpartum experiences, being a working parent, financial independence in women and the ever-present challenge of “mom guilt.”

While discussing motherhood and being a working mother, all of them pointed out the topic of ‘mom guilt’ which is something that they all feel “has been there forever and now, has become even bigger". To this, Falguni added “I used to travel extensively day and night and come home to Adwaita asking me to sign here and sign there. There’s a lot of guilt with young kids, especially for quality time. I used to keep telling myself, 'How do I compete with a mother who is spending so much quality time with her kids?' It’s a long-term thing and it doesn’t get easy. You really need to be jiddhi about what you want to achieve at work for you to overcome that guilt and say no, this matters to me and I need to do it.”

Adding her perspective as to how one can get over the ‘guilt’, be it for mothers or fathers, Adwaita said, “I saw my mom pursue everything that she is passionate about- how much she loved working, friendships, travel, treks despite having a busy career. Having all of that as a role model gives me the courage to be like her, wanting to live for myself. What starts off as children missing their parents, eventually becomes children feeling as they get older that I want to live for myself and thrive in this one life I have because I saw my parents do it.”

Masoom Minawala, reflecting on her own experiences, added that “mom guilt” isn’t exclusive to working parents. She highlighted how her homemaker mother, who always lived life on her own terms, showed her that being true to oneself sets an equally powerful example for children.

The conversation offered a heartfelt reminder that while “mom guilt” is a shared experience, it’s possible to find balance and inspiration in different paths to motherhood. It’s about showing children the value of following one’s passions—whether at work, at home, or beyond.
