New Update
Met Gala 2025

The first Monday in May has arrived and so have the eagerly awaited red carpet looks. Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s extravagant gala!

Fashion enthusiasts assemble! The Met Gala 2025 red carpet is officially out there for the world to see! Every year the star studded gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York brings together some of the most popular faces from the acting, music, modeling and fashion industries to mark the museum’s new spring costume institute exhibition. This year, the event celebrates ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ which will be on view from May 10 to October 26. The new showcase explores the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora, and will be arranged by 12 characteristics of Black dandyism.

A lesser known fact about the iconic carpet itself, it is made by Extraweave, a Kerala-based company, for the third year running. It is the hardwork of 480 artisans from Kerala who brought the carpet to life within 90 days.

To reflect the theme this year, the dress code for the Met Gala 2025 is ‘Tailored for you’ - a sartorial mood that is purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation. This year's co-chairs include music producer Pharrell Williams, actor Colman Domingo, racing legend Lewis Hamilton, and rapper A$AP Rocky. And of course, the queen of Met Gala who goes through every single detail of the whole night aka Anna Wintour, who was the first one to arrive at the carpet as usual.

But what makes this year special is that after forever we see a good amount of Indian representation on the carpet! While Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have carried the Met solo so far, 2025 brings an abundance of Indian actors on the carpet. Diljit Dosanjh, Kiara Advani and Manish Malhotra made their debut on the carpet this year. And Isha Ambani, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Natasha Poonawaala, Mona Patel and Sabyasachi have slayed it with their ensembles yet again. But the one look everyone was hyped about was none other than King Khan himself!

Let’s break down every single one of their looks and why them making an appearance makes sense now more than ever!

Shah Rukh Khan becomes the first Indian actor to debut at the Met Gala. His ensemble designed by Sabyasachi subtly connects the shared histories of Black and Indian dandyism, two traditions that reimagined tailoring. His looks consists of a floor length elongated coat, a black crepe de Chine silk shirt, left open at the chest, paired with tailored wool trousers and a pleated satin kamarbandh to complete the look.

The jewellery also made by Sabyasachi consists of a custom stack of chains, anchored by a crystal studded pendant shaped as the letter ‘K’ for King Khan. He walked the carpet with a cane in hand to add to the grandeur of his presence at the carpet. Shah Rukh Khan is often known as the face of Bollywood globally and it was about time that one of the most loved actors in the world made his debut at one of the biggest events of the world!

Next up, we have Diljit Dosanjh who adorned a look inspired by Sir Bhupinder Singh, the extravagant Maharaja of Patiala. Styled by Abhilasha Devnani and designed by Prabal Gurung, his ivory and gold sherwani, cape, and pants made him look royal to say the least! The outfit featured detailed embroidery of Indian cultural symbols like the lotus flowers, peacocks, the Gurmukhi script, and a cape depicting Punjab itself. While Diljit Dosanjh has been taking over the world one song at a time, he is also often known for his love for fashion. So it only made sense that he marked his presence at the Met this year!

Kiara Advani makes a stunning Met Gala debut wearing Gaurav Gupta couture. Flaunting her baby bump in public for the first time ever, the actress wore a striking black gown adorned with a metallic breastplate and a flowing white train. At the heart of the look was a symbolic detail which was a heart-shaped plaque for her baby, delicately attached to the breastplate by a golden thread representing the umbilical cord. The look was designed by Anaita Shroff Adajania. Kiara Advani walked the Met as an association with Gaurav Gupta who has often showcased his pieces at the Gala through various celebrities!

Marking her fifth appearance at the Met, Priyanka Chopra Jonas showed up in Balmain and Bvlgari. Dressed in a sharp polka dot suit styled by Olivier Rousteing, she channels a modern take to an old Hollywood look. Over the years, Chopra Jonas has made a name for herself in Hollywood and has now become one of the most popularly recognized Indian faces in the west.

Coming to the designers, Manish Malhotra has also made his debut at the Met this year. The designer wore a tailored white shirt with cuffs, paired with black trousers. But the real highlight was in the layers. Over the shirt came a structured waist coat and a cape over that with intricate golden embroidery.

Marking his presence for the second time at the Gala, Sabyasachi wore a tailored white shirt with black trousers paired with a long white coat. He wore a headgear which had a brooch and a golden feather attached to it.

Indian billionaires were not far behind this year either! Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla and Mona Patel mark their annual presence at the Met looking their absolute best!

Isha Ambani wore Anamika Khanna couture which consisted of a white geometric corset, black tailored pants and a flowing white cape. She was styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania.

Natasha Poonawalla wore a dress designed by Manish Malhotra, it was a sculpted gown with heavy Parsi Gara embroidery all over. She too was styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania.

Mona Patel adorned a custom Thome Browne suit and her corset was weaved by Indian artisans which made it the perfect blend of both worlds.

Manish Malhotra's association with the Met this year, doesn't just end at his own debut. Grammy award winning singer songwriter Coco Jones was seen wearing one of his haute couture pieces at the carpet this year!

Apart from the Indian faces at the Met this year, here’s who stunned at the carpet this year!
