Greta Thunberg

The young environment activist, Greta Thunberg is not optimistic of the Italy talks on climate change at the pre-COP26 event at Milan.

'Thirty years of blah blah blah.' Talking recently at this week's climate talks in Italy, Greta Thunberg along with her fellow youth activist shared their skepticism about the effectiveness of the plans laid out by the world leaders. Greta called out leaders in the past on their ignorance towards making Earth a better place for future generations. And in her speech on Tuesday, she showed her concern about how little has been done after all the promises made by the leaders since the Earth Summit.

"Our hopes and dreams are drowned in their empty words and promises. Of course, we need constructive dialogue 30 years of blah blah blah but and where has that led us? But of course, we can still turn this around. it is entirely possible. It will take drastic annual emission cuts, unlike anything I’ve ever seen." says Greta. She later adds, "As we don’t have technological solutions that alone can deliver anything closer to that, that means we will have to change. we can no longer let the people in power decide what is politically possible or not."

Greta mentioned in her speech how time is running out and as per recent reports by the UN, there was a warning on things going out of hand. She talked about how leaders keep talking about handling Global Warming while dealing with their political agendas and continue to stick to their empty promises. In order to show their protest, Greta and thousands of young people converge on Milan this week, either remotely or in person, to hammer out proposals to tackle Global Warming. These thousands that include around 400 people from about 190 countries are all set to meet policymakers to discuss the same. These young activists were challenged to come up with new solutions ahead of the COP26 UN summit in November. As various climate and energy ministers will be gathering at the same venue for their pre-COP26 meeting, these proposals will be presented to them while some will make it to the Glasgow summit.

She is truly inspiring, and we hope that world leaders and people take the smallest measure to help in this work.
