Jammu- Kashmir is no longer a state of India, on 31st October the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 was passed making Jammu-Kashmir one of the union territories of our country. This act reconstitutes Jammu-Kashmir into one and Ladakh into another union territory.

Under Article 370 of the Indian constitution, Jammu and Kashmir received special status. But after Prime Minister Narendra Modi revoked this article, Jammu and Kashmir became an equal part of India with all the provisions of the Indian Constitution being applicable to these states. This enabled the parliament to enact and pass the new Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 making it and Ladakh the latest union territories of our country.

China on Thursday objected to this and referred to it as "unlawful and void". They objected claiming that some area is part of China and India's decision to include some of it into its administrative jurisdiction is like challenging Beijing's sovereignty. As reported by Indian Today, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said, "China urges the Indian side to earnestly respect Chinese territorial sovereignty, abide by our treaties and uphold peace and tranquillity in the border areas and create favourable conditions for a proper settlement of boundary question."
