Despite a lower turnout at the box office, Anurag Kashyap’s Nishaanchi seems to have hits the bull’s-eye, earning praise from the janta who turned up in the theatres craving a Kashyap film!
Anurag Kashyap has always been a filmmaker whose personality is as boldly different as his films. He is constantly in the news for something he has said whether it’s his commentary on the bad practices of the Hindi film industry, his frustration with the politics that once led him to step away from it, or his championing of new independent cinema that might otherwise have missed the spotlight. He is outspoken, vocal, and everywhere yet it has been ages since we saw him truly speak through a film. That is why anticipation for Nishaanchi was so high for nostalgic Kashyap fans. Would it be his revenge on the industry, or his war cry, much like his earlier explorations that were as much about cinema itself as about showing audiences what a film could be? And in that sense, Nishaanchi feels like everything Kashyap stands for. It is his love letter to the cinema he grew up on, the cinema that shaped him, and at the same time a return to the form that once made him a cult figure of being a film school himself from which so many students have emerged and continue to.

Yet, despite the low theatre turnout suggested by box office numbers, those who did show up have been full of praise. Many wonder why Kashyap’s loyal cult following, the ones who proudly call themselves his loyalists didn’t show up for him this time. Because while the film may be flawed, it is still engaging, entertaining, and unmistakably Kashyap in form. Others have praised it for its rootedness from its use of folk music to its casting of fresh faces who shoulder the film without needing to be breakout stars just yet.
Here's what they are saying!
Nishaanchi : Quircky chars, the trademark Anurag Kashyap dialogues (imagining the memes coming frm them ) the music, the way each char is given enough space & time, story emotions & screenplay worked so well fr me. Yes the man who made Gangs of Wasseypur is truly well & back🔥

Nishaanchi deserves more man 💔. An earnest attempt as well. I saw the traces of Anurag Kashyap in this film. I liked the film and the performances, the quirkyness too. Yeah it's dragged out and runtime could've been a bit shorter but I had fun watching it. https://t.co/mC90xQwD3E

If Wasseypur was Kashyap's Goodfellas, Nishaanchi is his Casino.

Worth watching it in theatres only for one gun fight scene, where the camera moves in a way that you can't help but pull this move pic.twitter.com/l8d7qx0wWv
Stay for the end credit scene in Nishaanchi!! pic.twitter.com/ECKsWVlTfi

Nishaanchi is Anurag Kashyap’s return to his roots. With the plot set in ‘90s Kanpur. At its core it’s a revenge saga done in Kashyap’s inimitable style of long, emotional flashbacks. Monika Panwar delivers another mature performance after Khauf. Aaishvary Thackeray’s impressive.

Really liked and thoroughly enjoyed #Nishaanchi.

After a very long time it felt like I was watching a Kashyap movie.
All the actors are terrific.
Especially LOVED the women, Monika P and Vedika P.
Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub SO, SO, SO good as the nasty af Inspector Kamal.
Unfortunately the curse to be @anuragkashyap72, once #Nishaanchi releases on OTT, it will be all over social, memes, dialogues, positive reviews & what not.

I do feel sometimes we don't deserve good movies
