Starring Taapsee Pannu and Kani Kusruti, Assi has impressed the janta for its gritty realism, stellar performances and hard-hitting presentation.

Anubhav Sinha's courtroom drama, Assi, starring Taapsee Pannu, arrived in theatres last week. The title, referring to the number of rapes taking place everyday in India, explores the plight of victims in and outside the courtroom for justice while reflecting on the deep-rooted rape culture, apathy of institutions, and the human cost such cases bear in society. The film follows Raavi (Pannu) 's quest to bring justice to Parima’s (Kani Kusruti) offenders and has been receiving positive reviews from critics.

The Janta has been echoing this sentiment, with many unanimously opining that the film is hard-hitting, grounded and an urgent watch. While some found the film disturbing in nature, most are largely in awe of the performances, gritty narration, and sharp commentary on systematic and societal corruption!
