Emergency janta review

After being postponed time and again, Kangana Ranaut's film, based on the life of Indira Gandhi, is finally running in theatres. Here is how the Janta is reacting to it!

Emergency has been a topic of conversation ever since its inception! Whether it's due to the striking resemblance between the characters and their real-life counterparts or the repeated delays in its release, the film managed to stay in the news long before it even hit theatres. Directed by Kangana Ranaut, who also plays the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, and others, who portray key figures from that era.

Now that the film has finally reached the big screen, discussions around it are inevitable. The public appears deeply divided—while some praise Kangana's dual role as actor and director, hailing her portrayal and filmmaking, others criticize the film as a mere vehicle for her political agenda. The focus, however, seems to have shifted almost entirely to Ranaut herself, with much of the conversation revolving around her personal ideologies rather than the subject of the film: Indira Gandhi. For a biopic intended to delve into the life and legacy of one of India's most influential leaders, this lack of focus on Gandhi is a curious and strange case, especially keeping in mind today's political climate.
