Jolly LLB 3 wins hearts with its subject and satire, fails to pack a punch at box office with Rs. 59 crore 4-day collections

Helmed by Subhash Kapoor, Jolly LLB 3 is largely a hit among the Janta, however, the sentiment isn't reflecting in its collections so far!

It’s an era dominated by sequels in Bollywood, and last Friday it was Subhash Kapoor’s turn to offer the audience the third film of his socially relevant yet humorous courtroom drama franchise Jolly LLB. Featuring both the Jollys this time, Jolly LLB 3 saw the two lawyers uniting against the unjust land acquisition by a corporate shark. 

Jolly LLB 3 opened to largely positive reviews by the critics as they lauded the film for raising an important issue of farmer suicide with satire and doing ‘justice’ to the brand value of the franchise. The feeling was reiterated by the Janta as they, too, were impressed by the sensitive yet comical handling of the movie and the performance of the leads, Arshad Warsi, Akshay Kumar, and the fan favourite Saurabh Shukla.

However, the positive word around the film isn't translating into box office numbers as the film has only managed to earn Rs. 59 crore within 4 days of its release. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Jolly LLB 3's collections witnessed a sharp 56% drop on Monday, compared to Friday, especially during the evening shows. The legal drama opened to Rs. 12.50 crore on Friday, followed by Rs. 20 crore and Rs. 21 crore collections on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The first weekday started on a disappointing note with earnings tanking to Rs. 5.50 crores yesterday with the Tuesday discounted ticket offer today expected to give a boost to footfalls and collections.
