O Romeo

The Vishal Bhardwaj film, starring Shahid Kapoor in a highly anticipated reunion of the actor-director duo, has managed to build solid box office momentum despite receiving mixed reviews from the janta!

The highly anticipated Vishal Bhardwaj film O Romeo, featuring an ensemble cast including Tamannaah Bhatia, Nana Patekar, and Farida Jalal, is a gangster drama–cum–love story revolving around Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, and Avinash Tiwary. The film marks the much-awaited reunion of the actor-director duo Bhardwaj and Kapoor after Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon. It also signals Bhardwaj’s return to adapting literary material for the screen. Drawing from chapters of Hussain Zaidi’s book and weaving them through the thematic lens of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet,Bhardwaj once again attempts to make Shakespearean literature accessible while keeping the narrative inherently Indian in its soul and setting While all of this makes for an exciting theatrical return, the film has emerged as a mixed bag for the janta. It leaves people conflicted as on one hand, it works as a massy entertainer packed with drama and action; on the other, some feel it doesn’t quite deliver the depth and nuance typically associated with a Bhardwaj film. Reactions have been divided. Some expressed disappointment after eagerly awaiting the film, while others couldn’t stop praising its action sequences and dramatic highs. However, one unanimous takeaway has been the performances. Avinash Tiwary has been lauded as a menacing villain, Triptii Dimri brings a soulful grace to her role, and above all, an unhinged Shahid Kapoor proves to be an absolute delight to watch.
