Param Sundari

While some dismiss the film as a stereotypical waste of time, others think it makes for a good one-time watch even it isn’t perfect. Here's more on what the Janta thinks about Param Sundari!

The recently released Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Param Sundari has been the talk of the town. Whether it’s about Malayali representation, being yet another stereotypical northern take on the South of India, a rehash of Chennai Express, or simply a khichdi of everything typical of a Bollywood rom-com, its music and story often feel borrowed, from AR Rahman tracks to SRK films. Interestingly, more than the film itself, it’s the production house Maddock that has been in the spotlight. Busy killing any negative narrative around the film, they first went after creators’ Reels with copyright infringement claims, and now, even reviews that call the film unworthy of a watch are being pulled down including ours. In such a climate, it’s hard to believe which reviews surfacing online are genuine. Still, a few authentic ones suggest that audiences are split as well. Some recommend watching Lokah Chapter 1, a Malayalam film coincidentally released alongside Param Sundari for a real taste of Malayali culture. Others call the film a torture to sit through, or compare it unfavorably to Chennai Express, saying it doesn’t even match that scale. There are also those who defend the film, admitting it may not deliver on all fronts but still makes for a feel-good, one-time watch, a fun Bollywood rom-com, if not a masterpiece worth writing essays on.
