'Phule,' starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa, was released in theaters on April 25. Here's what the Janta had to say about the film!
'Phule' is a biographical film directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan. The film stars Pratik Gandhi as Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Patralekhaa as his wife, Savitribai Phule, portraying the lives of these pioneering social reformers who championed education and equality in 19th-century India. The narrative delves into their relentless efforts to combat caste discrimination and gender inequality, including establishing India's first school for girls in Pune in 1848. Produced by Dancing Shiva Films, Kingsmen Productions, and Zee Studios, Phule was released in theaters on April 25, 2025.
'Phule' has the Janta divided in two minds. While many viewers appreciated the film’s powerful message, its historical significance, praised Pratik Gandhi’s heartfelt performance, there were also few who felt that the movie struggled with a seameless execution. Some found the storytelling honest and emotionally resonant, calling it an important and beautifully crafted film, while others criticized it for a lack of narrative flow, disjointed editing, and underwhelming performances by the lead actors. Overall, 'Phule' seems to have struck a chord with some viewers emotionally, even as others were left disappointed by its uneven treatment and pacing.

Phule, A powerful, honest, and beautifully crafted film. Stellar performances by Pratik & Patralekha. Savitribai’s beautiful portrayal & the song "Saathi" stay with you. Thank you, @ananthmahadevan for this masterpiece. This isn’t just a film, it’s a movement!#PhuleTheFilm pic.twitter.com/rBrqU1hGkn

Watching "Phule" movie. The largely urban crowd has zero reaction to the movie! So tempted to whistle at some dialogues, looks like I'm sitting with a lot of 🍊s 😉 @lokeshbag67 waiting for your review

#Phule was bad. Almost terrible. And a dishonest film.

Not single person involved put sincere efforts. It takes special talent to ruin strong material. Film doesn’t have rhythm- editor put together disjointed reels and called it done. Pratik and Pratiklekha both awfully bad. pic.twitter.com/xsXsIuO4dN

A history lesson at its core, #Phule is cleverly buried beneath one magnificent performance. @pratikg80 delivers a presence both captivating and inspiring. It’s good. But that’s not the point. It’s necessary. It’s a poetic message of humanity and triumph.@ananthmahadevan pic.twitter.com/2Yd45rQSjf
Again, "Phule" is, for me, one of the finest movies made in India in a long, long time.

Watch it to know how Dung-pelters resorting to violence to save their outdated racist hegemony of religion & caste isn't something new. https://t.co/m8OIaNsaUX pic.twitter.com/gqccvrH7lS

Phule Review: Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa shine in dull, dry biopic with a lacklustre script
