Thamma janta review

The janta seems to be buzzing about Thamma, though for reasons beyond it being India’s first vampire love story. Check out what they’re saying!

Thamma, the fourth installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (after Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2), arrives with its inevitable yet intriguing vampire love story. Staying true to the MHCU brand, it draws from Indian mythology to introduce a new species into the universe - the Betaals, heartless, blood-sucking creatures who may look like monsters but are actually protectors of the earth. As the first love story in the franchise, Thamma continues the MHCU’s signature blend of old-school mythological storytelling, magical adventure, and modern humor infused with memes and meta references.

While the initial buzz was subdued and misguided by the three item songs release, the film seems to have impressed the janta. But more as an extension of the Maddock universe than as a standalone film like Stree. The janta seems to be praising Ayushmann Khurrana’s impeccable comic timing, Rashmika Mandanna’s charm despite her uneven Hindi, and especially Varun Dhawan’s cameo as Bhediya, whose epic face-off with the Betaal becomes the highlight of the entire film. But more than anything what the janta is enjoying is figuring out the easter eggs from the film that teases where the universe is headed towards the two Mahayudhs. From Akshay Kumar as Sarkata, the Thanos-like villain assembling his army starting with Nawazuddin Siddiqui asRakshashan, to hints of an upcoming alliance between Bhediya, Betaal, Stree, and the gang. With the teaser for Shakti Shalini and a post-credit tease of a Bhediya vs Betaal showdown, the MHCU seems poised to expand into its very own desi Marvel-style universe.

Here's what the janta is saying about Thamma!

Though if the box office report has to say anything than it is that the charm of the MHCU is working and the trurst that has been developed from the previous films has poured into this one as Thamma, made on the budget of 145 cr has crossed the mark of 100cr in six days since it's release on Diwali. In terms of storytelling it might be the weakest standalone film out of all the films from the universe but so far the excitement of the universe itself has brought the film the much needed success, despite of Ek Deewane ki Deewaniyat taking away some limelight as well as Kantara Chapter 1 still running in theatres.

Thamma is currently running at theatres near you!
