The Archies fails to impress the Janta

Directed by Zoya Akhtar, The Archies, based on the comic of the same name, was released on Netflix on December 7, 2023. It received mostly dismayed reactions from the Janta. 

Ever since Netflix announced ‘The Archies’, we were all waiting for it. It seemed like the movie would have something in store for everyone- The Archies characters for the comic fans, a small Anglo-Indian town, retro clothes, aesthetic setting and vibes, and a team of actors giving their debut performance. Moreover, the film is directed by Zoya Akhtar who rarely disappoints. Now that the movie is finally here, it is indeed the talk of the town.

However, the bad news is that the film hasn’t lived up to the hype and expectations. It's mostly getting negative reviews from the public. Some have liked it with Vedang Raina (Reggie Mantle) receiving quite some praise. However, it seems that The Archies was unable to make any impact on the audience.

vedang raina is so good in the archies. be it his screen presence, his dance, his dialogue delivery or his hold on emotions everything was on point. truly the standout performance from the main seven.

Tried to watch The Archies. Couldn’t get past an hour. Mediocrity written all over the script. Most of the cast, and especially Suhana, are horrible actors. Zoya Akhtar once again reaffirms her position as the high priestess of Bollywood’s liberal mediocrity.

Let me save you some hard earned time. The Archies is insufferable. I honestly didn't want to judge these kids but my god they are asking for it. Each scene is like worse than the last one. Cringefest is an understatement.

Forget the kids. Some are good and some may get better. The film itself is aimless, and despite the pomp and the colour, there was no fun to be had. My problem is that #TheArchies feels like it's been made by someone who isn’t good at their job and Zoya Akhtar is anything but.

Not gonna lie, Suhana Khan has acted amazingly in this scene, above par and far beyond my expectations. She sounds like a rich brat in the movie, which is exactly what she was supposed to portray, and she literally killed it.#TheArchies #AgastyaNanda

#TheArchies If you've nothing to watch on TV, maybe try it. If you've grown up reading Archie comics, forget it.
