The queen of the Indian music industry, Lata Mangeshkar walked us through different emotions of love through her songs.
Lata Ji created a safe space for our emotions with songs like Lag Jaa Gale that gave us all a hug and made us feel special. Every time I think about the time when my mom used to turn on the radio midst the chaos of getting ready for school, I remember how Lata Ji's songs kind of made all the chaos go away. Giving eight decades to the music industry can't be easy but Lata Mangeshkar surely made it look like a cakewalk. She helped a lot of us feel free and open with her songs and if that's not what true artistry is, we don't know what is.
Breakups are pretty damn hard and there are a zillion songs sung on heart break but lata Ji's been doing it since it wasn't even a thing. And the most exciting thing about her songs is how relatable they are to every age group. When she sang "Jeene ke liye socha hi nahi dard sambhalane honge" every person going through a heartbreak felt it. She truly was an inspiration to so many people. On her birthday, we celebrate the love she spread from her heart to ours.
