Made in Heaven recap

Since there was a gap of four years between season 1 and season 2, a Made in Heaven recap is much needed!

Made in Heaven recap: Season 1 introduced us to the struggles, turmoil and all the intense drama that goes behind setting up the dreamy world of weddings. Karan Mehra (Arjun Mathur) and Tara Khanna (Shobhita Dhulipala) , two wedding planners who own and operate a business called Made in Heaven, are trying their very best to grow with each wedding that they plan. But their personal lives have completely different plans for them.

Tara unintentionally finds out her husband Aadil (Jim Sarbh) is having an affair with her best friend Faiza (Kalki Koechlin) when the two get into an accident. Despite learning about the affair Tara decides to put Faiza’s health first and saves her life. But eventually her marriage with Aadil turns sour especially when she also confesses that she has tricked him into getting married to her so she can live a luxurious life. All Tara has ever been told by her mother is that she has to marry someone rich. Coming from a middle class family, and after losing her dad, she was only ever taught to make sure she has the perfect body and face for a rich man to fall in love with her. While she also wanted to be a financially successful woman herself, her mother’s words eventually did become her reality.

Coming to Karan, as a queer person in Delhi, he had a lot to deal with. From remembering his past trauma to dealing with his parents wanting him to still get married to a girl after knowing his reality, there’s a lot that unfolds with him. His landlord also secretly records him having sexual intercourse with his partner and after getting caught by his wife for doing so, he reports Karan to the police as a way to cover his truth from coming out. Karan is horribly mistreated the night he spends in jail. When he comes back to deal with his landlord and stand up for himself, it’s revealed that his landlord has in fact been secretly gay himself all his life.

Jaspreet (Shivani Raghuvanshi) is one of the interns at Made in Heaven who is ambitious and has big dreams in her life but is bound by her family’s issues. She is the only financially contributing member of her family and also has to deal with her brother’s drug addiction. She meets Kabir (Shashank Arora) at Made in Heaven and the two form a relationship that they’re yet to give a label to.

Season 1 ends with Karan catching up with his long lost love, Vikrant Massey and the two deal with their dark past and memories of them suppressing their true feelings. Tara finally decides to divorce Aadil. When the two wedding planners come to their workplace after facing their truth, they see that activists have vandalised their entire office because Karan is queer and they don’t want to promote that in any way at all.

While showcasing these aesthetically pleasing weddings, the show talks about important societal issues like dowry, rape, misogyny, consent, forced unions, re-marrying and taboos against homosexuality. In season 2, we hope that each character gets the closure that they deserve while also introducing us to more faces, and the series continues to talk about more crucial topics through the lens of yet another wedding.

Made in Heaven is directed by Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Nitya Mehra, Alankrita Srivastava and Neeraj Ghaywan. Season 2 will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting August 10.
