Life of a Showgirl review

The Life of a Showgirl is a reflection of everything that happened behind the scenes of the Eras Tour for Taylor Swift and the Swifties are ready to embrace it all!

The Life of a Showgirl consists of 12 tracks, each of them representing a part of Swift’s life that occurred in the past two years. Through this album she highlights the contrast that her life truly is. On one hand she is living the ultimate life of a showgirl and putting on a three and a half hour show everyday, but on the other hand, she is just another girl falling head over heels in love with a man who accepts her for who she is. The album begins with Fate of Ophelia which is inspired by a Shakespeare play called Ophelia. We’ve all known about Taylor Swift’s obsession with Shakespeare stories and this album is no exception either.

Ophelia was a woman who went insane because of love and drowned herself eventually. But Taylor’s song is all about how her nowfiancé, Travis Kelce, saved her from the Fate of Ophelia by loving her right! It’s all about declaring her love out loud for her man and there’s some Taylor Swift numerology in the lyrics to add to it! The music video for the song is just as extravagant and we see her in various showgirl costumes that start the album with a lot of glitz and glam!

The title track of the album, The Life of a Showgirl features Sabrina Carpenter and two of the most iconic showgirls in pop culture today sing about their life on stage and how we, as viewers, don't know what it takes to be one! But the album isn’t just about love and showtime, it's also about haters and her severed friendships. The seventh track on the album, Actually Romantic is her ode to all her haters who spend hours talking about her, that the obsession of it all actually feels romantic!

And then there’s Cancelled, in which she talks about how one of her friends got cancelled on the internet and how Swift’s name was used in the midst of it all. Fans were quick on picking up who these two songs could be about and how yet again Taylor Swift passes on her message through a cryptic song. Father Figure talks about how Taylor Swift took a protégéunder her wing and became her mentor. The one who she’d make deals for and pick up the bills before it touches the table, but how quickly that dynamic changed with the hint of a betrayal.

Her fifth track, Eldest Daughter is for every elder daughter who had to take on responsibilities whether she liked it or not. The ones who felt like love and marriage aren't for them but deep down they really want that security too. The lyrics are bound to leave any elder daughter teary eyed while listening to the song. Coming back to love songs, Fate of Ophelia isn’t the only one on the album though.

Opalite, Wish List and Wood are what feel-good rom-coms make us feel like! Opalite talks about how just like the man-made gemstone ‘Opal’, one has to build happiness intentionally sometimes. Wish List is about how people in the world have different goals. One wants an Oscar, one wants a record deal, but in the midst of all of that, all Swift wants to do is get married and have kids with the man she loves and live a quiet life away from the world! Lastly, Wood is about how Travis’ love for her does not make her want to touch wood because that is indeed something that’ll stay with her forever.

Overall, Life of a Showgirl has to be one of Swift’s happiest albums till date. The pop singer who is majorly known for the lyrical genius of her break up songs, is now declaring a new era in her life and it’s for all the hopeless romantics like her, who do not want to give up on the idea of finding true love!

Here’s how the internet is reacting to the new album!
