Neeyat trailer

The Neeyat trailer shows a classic whodunnit starring Vidya Balan and it’s giving us all typical Agatha Christie murder mystery vibes!

A rich man invites his family for a birthday dinner at a huge mansion at an isolated place and by the end of the night, he is dead with almost every member of the family having a good enough motive to kill him. Sounds familiar? The Neeyat trailer just dropped today and it’s giving us major deja vu of the 2019 popular murder mystery, Knives Out. Everything from the set to the way the characters behave with each other takes you right back to the Hollywood film.

In the trailer, we see Ram Kapoor playing a billionaire named Ashish Kapoor and from the looks of it, it seems like everyone has come to attend his birthday party. The attendees include Rahul Bose, Neeraj Kabi, Amrita Puri, Shahana Goswami, Niki Walia, Dipannita Sharma, Shashank Arora, and Prajakta Koli. Everyone’s having a gala time until the billionaire apparently jumps off a cliff. But detective Mira Rao played by Vidya Balan arrives on the scene to tell them that what seems like a suicide attempt is actually a murder. And she’s here to unravel who could have the best motive or ‘Neeyat’ to kill the victim amongst everyone present there.

From the trailer, certain shots have uncanny resemblance to the way Knives Out looked on-screen which is why one can really not help but make that comparison. You draw parallels for the characters as well. Vidya Balan has the same stern yet mysterious look on her face like Daniel Craig did. Or how Shahana Goswami dresses and speaks a lot like Toni Collette did in the film. Ram Kapoor obviously plays the role similar to that of the late Christopher Plummer. There’s also a late entrant in the film like Chris Evans was in Knives Out. But we don’t know who our Ana De Armas is yet! The film is directed by Anu Menon who previously worked with Vidya Balan in Shakuntala Devi. The film will have a theatrical release on July 7 and this will be Vidya Balan’s comeback to the big screen after 4 years. The film is produced by Abundantia Entertainment and co-produced by Prime Video.
