As Yemen is devastated by civil war, it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world with 80 per cent of the population in need of humanitarian assistance.

According to UNICEF, Yemen is the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, with more than 24 million people – some 80 per cent of the population – in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 12 million children. Since the conflict escalated in March 2015, the country has become a living hell for the country’s children.

With COVID-19 now spreading across the country, it has triggered the already existing emergency, thus, worsening the situations for Yemenis. The health facilities are collapsing and there is a lack of basic equipment like gloves and masks. Many workers have been working without salaries for years.

The lack of fundamental resources and the famine have together aggravated the circumstances, leading to acute malnourishment in children. In the war-torn region, schools have been shut for an infinite period and education has been disrupted, leaving millions of students vulnerable.

Reportedly, before COVID-19, 2 million children were out of school. Now, because of the pandemic, schools have been closed around the country, leaving an additional 5 million children out of school.

Netizens, news channels and celebrities are tweeting about the issue to bring it to light:
