Ayodhya Ram Mandir

Today, the Ayodhya Ram Mandir was inaugurated with the Pran Prathistha ceremony conducted by PM Modi among 7,000 guests, including many dignitaries from all walks of life!

For the uninitiated, the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya took place today. The entire country was busy prepping and getting dolled up for this day since the last few weeks. The chants of Jai Shree Ram, saffron flags, and Jubin Nautiyal's song were heard all around. Even a new version of the Ramayana started streaming on television while social media covered every aspect of it!

Ayodhya is known to be the Janmabhoomi, a.k .a. the birthplace of Lord Ram. After more than 500 years of struggle by the Hindus and a Supreme Court judgment in 2019 on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit, the Ram Lalla (child) idol finally sits in his mandir. According to history, in 1992, the 16th-century Babri mosque was demolished by "kar sevaks" as the Hindu litigants argued that the mosque was constructed at the temple site marking Lord Ram's birthplace.

Hence, the ceremony, which is being held just after the completion of only the first phase of the temple's construction, marks a huge celebration for many. The ceremony was called 'Pran Pratishtha', which translates to 'establishing the life force' or bringing the 'deity to life' where the Ram Lalla idol (5-year-old Lord Ram), after prayers and pooja, metaphorically transformed into a sacred and divine entity. The ceremonial journey leading up to the Pran Pratishtha included a seven-day ritual that commenced on January 16, 2024.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the main 'jajman' who performed all the necessary rituals and took the 'sanklap'. This was followed by many speeches! The ceremony also witnessed the presence of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, among other 7,000 dignitaries and prominent personalities. From the entertainment industry, we saw Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Madhuri Dixit, Kangana Ranaut, Rohit Shetty, Rajkumar Hirani, Anupam Kher, Ram Charan and many others. The entire Ambani Family was also present. Sachin Tendulkar, Saina Nehwal, Mithali Raj, and many others were also spotted at this inauguration.

Setting the spiritual mood, Sonu Nigam sang verses from the Ramcharitmanas ahead of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony, and his rendition of ‘Raghukul reet sada chali aayi' while Anuradha Paudwal and Shankar Mahadevan sang with their devotional renditions. Ayodhya temple and the Lord Ram idol are officially open for the public to come now for darshan.
