The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations are out, and some of the year’s biggest shows are going head-to-head including The Studio, Severance, The Bear, The Penguin, The White Lotus and more. Check out the full list of nominees here!
It’s that time of the year when the Television Academy has revealed the nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards, and let’s just say Apple TV+ is having its grand moment as two its shows, Severance on the drama front with 27 nominations and The Studio in comedy with 23 nominations, have surged ahead in the Emmys nomination race. In fact, The Studio, created by Seth Rogen, has just tied with The Bear (2024) for the most comedy nods in a single year. While Apple’s got the spotlight with these two powerhouses, HBO Max has reclaimed its long-time throne with a whopping 142 nominations and it's all thanks to The Penguin that is leading the Limited/Anthology category, highly anticipated titles like The White Lotus, The Last of Us, and reigning comedy champ Hacks; all combined together, they beat HBO Max's own 2022 high of 140 nominations.
Over at Netflix, the competition is stiff. Although they’re not leading this year, they’re still in the mix with 120 nods across 44 titles. From hits like The Diplomat to animation like Love, Death + Robots, the streamer was recognised in 14 of the 20 program categories including limited series and pre-recorded variety slots. Leading the pack is Adolescence with 13 nominations, followed by Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story with 11 and Black Mirror with 10 nominations, while Arcane continued Netflix’s stronghold in adult animation. FX’s The Bear, which dominated since its release with a record-breaking Emmy sweep, is back and hoping to rebound after Hacks edged it out last year. Though among comedy contenders, there’s also Abbott Elementary, Only Murders in the Building (with all three leads finally nominated together), Shrinking and What We Do in the Shadows (ending its run with a respectable 35 nominations but only one win so far).
In the limited series race, Adolescence is hoping to pull off what Baby Reindeer did last year, but it faces tough competition from Dying for Sex and The Penguin which is currently one of the buzziest shows out there. Also in the mix is Black Mirror and Monsters. The Reality category brings back familiar faces with The Traitors wants to defend its title against reality juggernauts like The Amazing Race, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Top Chef, and the forever-nominated-but-never-won Survivor.

One of the surprise changes this year is what people named “Queen Elizabeth rule” after The Crown’s Claire Foy which blocks performers from switching to the Guest Acting category for roles they've already been nominated in under lead or supporting. Bascially no double dipping for a win for the same role. Even the directing race has loosened up though now; the same director can submit multiple works if they’re from different shows. And in a telling sign of changing times, the Talk Show category is now down to just three nominees this time - The Daily Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Helping announce the nominations were Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song joined by TV Academy chair Cris Abrego. In total, 600 shows were in the running this year across 15 key program categories, with 228 submissions across drama, comedy and limited series. And history was made as Kathy Bates (Matlock) at 77 becomes the oldest nominee in the Lead Drama Actress category. The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by Nate Bargatze and air live on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
