The much-anticipated trailer of Metro In Dino has been released, and it looks like a fresh take on love is on its way set against the backdrop of a soulful musical album!
Who can forget Anurag Basu’s Life In A Metro? When Shilpa Shetty chose her husband (Kay Kay Menon) over her lover (Shiney Ahuja), or when Konkona Sen Sharma fell in love with an unhinged yet irresistible Irrfan Khan stopping his wedding. When Sharman Joshi loved Kangana Ranaut with a quiet, one-sided devotion—expectation-free and selfless. And when Dharmendra finally reunited with his lifelong love Nafisa Ali, only to lose each other once again. The film offered a perspective on love that was both real and aspirational. It was a love letter to Mumbai and monsoons, both acting as a character in itself shaping and soaking the complicated love lives and emotions of its people. And more than anything, it was Pritam’s music, performed on-screen by his band, that channeled the pent-up emotions of the characters expressed more deeply through lyrics and rhythm than words ever could.
It was everything combined that made the film not just a story, but a lingering emotion. And now, it’s nothing short of exciting that a second installment is on the way. Since its announcement, Metro... In Dino has been highly anticipated not just for the impressive ensemble cast it brings together, but also for what the Basu-Pritam duo might conjure up this time. And judging by the trailer, it might just exceed expectations.
As true to the film’s tradition, we once again meet a host of characters played by Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Neena Gupta, and Anupam Kher all navigating that ever-complicated tightrope between love and life. According to the trailer, it looks like if Life In A... Metro was about the chaos of falling in love and discovering connection in the unlikeliest of places, Metro... In Dino seems to be about what comes after which is the endurance of love. Because falling in love once isn’t enough you have to keep choosing that person over and over again. That’s what love truly means. And as the trailer beautifully states- Kisi ke saath poori zindagi guzaarne ke liye baar baar pyaar mein padna padta hai, ussi ek insaan ke saath (To spend a lifetime with someone, you have to fall in love with them again and again). It feels like the film, just like us, has grown up promising to reflect the complications of today’s relationships and the evolving ways in which we strive to keep love desperately alive.

The three-minute-and-seventeen-second trailer brings back that unmistakable feeling that only Anurag Basu can evoke layered with Pritam’s music, which once again adds an emotional richness, just like the original. Watching the trailer, it almost makes you want to scream with joy: is the Hindi cinema we once fell in love with finally making a comeback, especially when it comes to telling nuanced love stories for our times? But while the glimpse of Metro in Dino seems promising we’ll find the answer to that question for sure when the film releases on July 4, 2025 and will know what the ensemble cast with the team of Basu and Pritam has cooked for us!
