Booksmart director, Olivia Wilde is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, her new project is in the works with Sony Pictures.
Sony Pictures is building on the female characters at the centre of it. To increase the scope of its universe of Marvel characters, a deal with, Olivia Wilde, has been closed. So far, reports suggest that it will be a Marvel film project revolving around a female character in the universe.
In 2019, Olivia directed Booksmart, a movie that wasn't appreciated by many. The new venture is rumoured to be based on the character of Spider-woman, a female-led superheroine film in the Marvel World.
Wilde will be writing the film along with her writing partner Katie Silberman, the film shall be produced by Amy Pascal while Rachel O’Connor will executively produce. Playing as the alter-ego of many women in the Spiderman comic book since the 1970s, Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson and Jessica Drew have been Spider-women in the past.
Responding to a Tweet about her deal with Sony Pictures, the Director dropped a Spider emoji and that made fans think she might be hinting about Directing Spider-Woman.
Let's read what netizens have to say about the news:
If they are going to make a #SpiderWoman movie, the first casting call will be to Zendaya. If she's interested, it's hers. Would Spider-man's children also have spider powers? What if MJ gave birth to a big clutch of spider-babies? I'm just throwing out some ideas... 🤔 pic.twitter.com/Bli0wVtJqL— Cinema Analytica (@CinemaAnalytica) August 20, 2020
