Naatu Naatu and The Elephant Whisperers along with Deepika Padukone made India shine bright with this golden opportunity at the Oscars 2023!

RRR had already been making a name for itself in the west since its release and then when the awards season began, there has been quite a lot of discussion about the film back in India. But there was never any contention about the song Naatu Naatu, which took India and inevitably the world by storm in the Telugu and Hindi version, by its crazy choreography and exceptionally energetic rhythm. Besides Naatu Naatu winning, even Deepika Padukone looked absolutely stunning in a lovely black gown and made an announcement at the Oscars while trying to keep herself intact. While the documentary about the indigenous people of India, The Elephant Whisperers deservingly so swept the golden trophy home. All of this made our morning gleeful and left us feeling so proud that is fair to say that with Naatu Naatu and The Elephant Whisperers, and of course Deepika Padukone, India won big at the Oscars 2023!

Naatu Naatu won the Best Original Song while The Elephant Whisperers won the Best Documentary Short at the Academy Awards 2023. The live performance of the song Naatu Naatu which received a standing ovation as the entire hall erupted was announced by Deepika Padukone.

The Oscars are not just an award show, they're one of the highest honors in the cinematic community that most of us have only watched others get. It's amazing how we went from simply just watching to dreaming of winning an Oscar to Indians already having won two! And what's more exciting is the fact that histories were created by these wins. As we won this trophy earlier but those were for productions outside of India. This is the first time that homegrown productions for Naatu Naatu and The Elephant Whisperers won the Oscars. And an Indian actor, Deepika Padukone announced on the stage at the Oscars that now is a representation worth watching the award show for. 2023 is truly an amazing time for Indian Cinema!

Naatu Naatu, the hit breakout song from RRR, that's directed by SS Rajamouli stars Jr. NTR, and Ram Charan, and is composed by M.M. Keeravani and written by Chandrabose. It was filmed at Ukraine’s grand Mariinsky Palace. The Elephant Whisperers is made by Kartiki and produced by Guneet Monga and tells the tale of a couple in South India who adopt a baby elephant and care for him.

There can be a lot said about the wins and the politics behind it all, especially with RRR. But what makes you really happy is the fact that a film like The Elephant Whisperers won, which is so pure and core in its heart that didn't even need a massive marketing strategy. And even though I have reserves about RRR and its PR strategy outside of India, yet its representation in the west is important. As it makes the world put the limelight on India and puts it in a golden spot waiting to be explored further. And hey we have come a long way since the time of Lagaan (both colonial films). That is why today is a proud-proud day for all! And what more to say about Deepika Padukone from Om Shanti Om red carpet to Cannes to now the Academy Award, she is a force!

RRR and The Elephant Whisperers are currently streaming on Netflix!
