As much as we love the leads in a K-drama, we’re all suckers for a good K-drama friendship arc and thankfully these shows served us well!
The central arc of a K-drama is always built around the romance. That’s a given! But when it sneaks in a good friendship duo, there’s really nothing like it! Be it K-dramas like Thirty-Nine and When Life Gives You Tangerines that make us sob like there’s no tomorrow! Or K-dramas like the recently popular, Our Unwritten Seoul and The Resident Playbook that put a smile on our faces, these shows really uncover various shades of friendship like no other! They often help us resonate with these characters with scenes that could easily be relatable to you and I and some even stand out as the highlight in a K-drama, preceding the romantic leads even!

Mi-Ji and Park Ji-Yoon - Our Unwritten Seoul
While on the surface the two look like ex-lovers who were still in touch, Mi-Ji and Park Ji-Yoon were actually way more than any of that. They were platonic besties who not only got excited over every small win in each other’s lives but also played the perfect wingman/wingwoman for each other in their relationships. Watching their friendship unfold on-screen felt like every other girl-guy best friendship who knows every single thing about one another!
The Resident Playbook cast
There’s nothing like a workplace friendship where you bond over life trauma and everything you hate about your work! The Resident Playbook gang does just that and proves that your work friends probably look at you from a lens that the outside world can’t!
Ae-Sun and her neighbourhood ladies!
Even though they were Ae-Sun’s mom’s friends, after her passing away, they stood by Ae-Sun like a rock! They eventually became her confidantes, her ride or die in so many tough situations, and did exactly what they would if her mother would have been alive.
Cha Mi-Jo, Jang Joo-Hee and Jeong Chan-Young - Thirty Nine
Three women who are ready to enter their forties, navigate life in completely different ways but respect each other’s opinions! Mi-Joo, Joo-Hee and Chan-Young represent every girl group trio who has an extroverted personality, the quiet and meticulous one and the one who is just going with the flow! Their friendship was peak girlhood on-screen!
Naa Hee-Do and Ko Yu-Rim - Twenty-Five Twenty-One
Even though the two were rivals on the fencing field, they had a fine line between their friendship and competition. Once the helmets were on, the friendship took a backseat but once it came off, they were best of friends! They were like any other girl best friends who would talk about boys, gossip, and help each other dress up!
Woo Young-Woo and Dong Geurami- Extraordinary Attorney Woo
A friendship that literally started an internet trend with their unique way of greeting each other, Woo Young-Woo and Dong Geurami are one for the books!
Hospital Playbook cast
From being college friends to doctors, the Hospital Playlist gang has come a long way! They portray what it’s like to grow together as a group and experience not just your own but each other’s lives while finding things that you like doing together!
