In a swarm of macho guys and mansplainers, Noah swept us off our feet and we need more men like him, STAT!

For a genre like rom-coms that mostly cater to women, a lot of these stories are actually  written by men and they build an idea of a man that's quite outdated in today’s time. Then there are films like Animal that just straight up traumatize you for a pretty long time. Noah from Nobody Wants This played by the lovely Adam Brody saved the declining image of male characters this year. He is every woman’s dream but he is also a man of today. He doesn’t do extravagant things but he listens, he notices and his actions match his words. He was a big lesson this year for filmmakers and for men IRL about what women truly want from relationships and we’ll be waiting to see more characters like him on-screen just like we’ve seen a plethora of ‘hero saves the damsel in distress’ kinda male characters.

Here’s why!

FIRST OF ALL, HE COMMUNICATES?!

Finding a guy who communicates his feelings is like finding a needle in a haystack. Noah is not afraid of keeping his feelings out in the open for Joanne. He encourages uncomfortable conversations and talking their way through fights so that they become closer than ever. He never makes her feel like she can't come and speak her mind with him and he never not reassures her about how much he loves her. Stuff like this goes a long way!

There’s no gaslighting involved

Noah is one of those men who make you feel safe; he makes it okay to be your most vulnerable self in front of him. Unlike most women who are victims of gaslighting, Joanne never had to feel guilty to express her feelings. Your partner is supposed to make you feel like they are your safe space and Noah fully achieved that not just for her but even for the women watching.

Meeting her family did not overwhelm him or have him running out the door

When your relationship starts getting serious, meeting the family becomes the next big step and it can make or break your relationship. Noah could’ve easily gotten overwhelmed by Joanne’s modern family dynamics; Joanne wasn’t too comfortable with him getting such a close insight into her personal life either. But he straight up told her that ‘he can handle her and he can handle all of this’. He reassured her that he is here to stay, no matter what! I think we all fell in love with him in that scene.

He is good looking for sure but his kindness is what truly radiates throughout

We all know Noah is one hot Rabbi but honestly what makes him more attractive above and beyond that beard and his smile, is actually his empathy. Noah is a classic example of how looks aren’t important for women - a guy could literally be a 5 in the looks department but he would be a 100 for her if he treats her well.

His masculinity does not feel threatened when he has to leave his career for her

In the real world, Joanne would one hundred percent convert to Judaism if their relationship had to stay afloat. Because of course, we’re all so used to the woman making adjustments for the man. But Noah truly became a rarity when he left it ALL for her - his religion, his work, his family, just so they can be together. He taught us what ‘if he wanted to he would’ looks like and a lot of us needed that reality check! He's set the standards rather high!

He doesn’t shudder when he has to say sorry!

It takes a rather secure man to say sorry to a woman when he realizes he went wrong somewhere. Noah is not just shown to be this pure hearted guy; he makes mistakes but the difference here is that he owns up to them. You know he is a keeper when he accepts that he screwed up and learns from that experience.

Here’s hoping we see more of him next year and more progressive male characters like him that shape the future of pop culture!
