As a Shah Rukh Khan fan, I don’t just dance to his songs or repeat his dialogues, I treat his films as a guide book to life. Here’s why!
Every Shah Rukh Khan fan in this country can attest to the fact that watching his movie is never just mere ‘entertainment’, it’s a lot of adrenaline rush, emotions and impactful scenes staying with you for decades on end. His on-screen journeys taught me that love is audacious, not timid, that responsibility kicks in not when everything’s perfect, but when the world isn’t on your side and you still choose to stand up. His stories truly are epitome of longing, resilience of hope and humility. As someone who has grown up idealizing him, I often felt impacted by his characters. Every time they had an epiphany about something pivotal, it would stay with me way past the credits roll! Maybe, part of it is also because he mostly played characters who would always do the right thing, no matter what. He was a king to the world, but my hero in every sense. Sometimes it was his shiddat for someone that stayed with me, sometimes it was his sattar minute speech. Sometimes it was the sheer will power his characters had, but above all, he taught me how to fall in love, truly, madly, deeply and in slo-mo!

These films in particular, shaped who I am as a person today!
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
The sole log line that K3G is sold over is ‘It’s all about loving your parents’. But Rahul Raichand taught me that while it is important to love and respect your parents, it’s important to live for yourself first. The freedom of making choices and embracing them even if it comes at the cost of disappointing your parents is okay! As long as that really brought me the happiness I deserve!
Om Shanti Om
As someone who cannot stop fangirling over Jungkook of BTS, I think it’s safe to say that I am in my Om Prakash Makhija era! I relate to him more than any on-screen character these days because just like my love for Jungkook, he knew no bounds for Shanti Priya either. He taught me to love selflessly, without expecting anything in return but he also taught me to put my hand forward and ask for my happiness if I want to!
Kal Ho Naa Ho
Aman taught me Kal Ho Naa Ho, quite literally! For someone whose living days were numbered, he really taught me how to seize the day and make as many memories as possible with the ones I love!
Swades
Every single time I come back home from a long holiday abroad, Swades inevitably starts playing in my head. I could travel around the world and be all starry eyed about the place but nothing hits like home. The one place that feels safe, mine and the one I will always root for to progress and do better. Mohan Bharagava taught me plenty of that and more!
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge
Raj simply taught me that sometimes the wrong train can take you to the right destination. That love will one day find me when I am least expecting it!
Main Hoon Na
Major Ram taught me that I don’t always have to be the overprotective elder sibling. It’s okay to take it easy and sometimes even ask for help from my loved ones when needed. Simply because not all missions are worth completing alone!
My Name is Khan
Rizwan’s will power was one for the books and it showed me how I could achieve whatever I wanted as long as I was stubborn enough to not back down!
Chak De! India
Coach Kabir Khan took a long time to find a sync with all the women in the hockey team and that taught me how life isn’t going to work in my favour always. There’s going to be various different personalities and temperaments around me but how I find my footing amid all of that is what truly matters!
So here’s to the one who I’ll never stop loving and learning from, your movies will forever stay iconic!
