The latest viral trend #Womeninmaledominatedfields is using humor to expose the double standards women face everyday. It’s bold, satirical, and impossible to ignore.

Society has long been built on unspoken rules and double standards, especially when it comes to how men and women are treated in relationships and public spaces. Behaviors that are normalized for men are often seen as shocking or inappropriate if women were to act the same way. This weird imbalance has always been a topic of conversation, but rarely do we get to see it called out in such a bold and entertaining way. Yes! We are talking about the ongoing reel trend 'Women in Male-Dominated Fields'. Women are flipping the narrative by acting out scenarios where they mirror the toxic or dismissive behaviors they’ve experienced by using humor to highlight just how absurd these double standards really are. Videos like, "I walked up to a man mid-set at the gym and told him to cover up because he’s distracting me, and I just can’t control myself" are great examples of this sad reality. Unfortunately, it is just a fragment of our society that exposes the entitlement men enjoy and the lack of respect women face daily.

Many women have used this trend to talk about their relationships with men, revealing patterns of negligence, lack of care, and even mental abuse. The reels with women pretending to act like their partners highlight how they ignore emotional needs, dismiss their achievements, or sometimes are completely indifferent to their struggles. It’s heartbreaking to see how normalized these behaviors have become, only for them to be glaringly uncomfortable when the roles are reversed. These examples aren’t exaggerated but lived experiences shared by many women; the comments under these videos prove it. #Womeninmaledominatedfields talks about how often these instances are excused in everyday life, further highlighting the damaging and sad reality we live in.

While the trend started as a way to highlight double standards and toxic behaviors, some people on the internet are putting their own lighthearted spins on it. One funny example is a girl who turned the trend into "Daughters in Father-Dominated Fields," where she talks about responding to her dad’s long, important text with just a thumbs-up emoji.

Considering how popular the trend has been online, FOMO soon caught on to men and joined the trend to make it about themselves. They soon started sharing their version of the trend creating reels on “Men in Female-Dominated Fields.” While there are undoubtedly some funny takes, others are simply embarrassing to watch. For example, one reel says, “I started with my own rant so I don’t have to listen to hers and saved my day.” Another shows a man mocking a common scenario, saying, “When she asks me what to order but I just say, ‘I don’t know, whatever you want,’ now she has to read my mind and know exactly what I want.” These reels have received mixed reactions with some calling them relatable, while others seeing them as tone-deaf attempts at humor. The main criticism, however, lies in the contrast between what men and women are sharing. The reels by women focuses on calling out issues like trauma, casual misogyny, and disrespect in relationships. While men seem to either complain about minor inconveniences or seem to simply hop on a trend without adding meaningful commentary. But hilariously enough, people couldn't help but notice that they are only helping to reinforce the whole point of the trend, making it even more entertaining.
