Starring Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas, A Very Jonas Christmas Movie feels more like a Jonas family get-together than a true Christmas film!
A Very Jonas Christmas Movie review: If you’re an early 2000s kid who grew up being glued to Disney Channel, ‘Jonas’ and ‘Camp Rock’ must have definitely made it to your watchlists! Because I discovered the Jonas Brothers for the first time through Disney, more than their music, it’s their TV show and movies that remain etched in childhood memory. Seeing them on-screen even today makes me super nostalgic of the good old days and takes me back to a happy place from my adolescence. So when I heard the trio is coming back with a Christmas film, I was excited to get that same feeling I got when I watched them as a teenager.
But A Very Jonas Christmas Movie is far from the Disney legacy the Jonas Brothers have created for themselves. The film begins after the band finished their European tour in London and long to go back home for Christmas. The same night, Joe Jonas unexpectedly meets Santa Claus at a bar and talks to him about how the bond between the brothers just does not feel the same anymore. So like any Christmas film, Santa tries to give them their own version of a Christmas miracle.

The brothers constantly keep stumbling upon situations where they cannot leave Europe and are forced to spend more time with each other. Their flight back home catches fire and demolishes into pieces, their train to Paris changes destination to Amsterdam and Joe Jonas loses their passports when he goes skinny dipping with his long lost love, Lucy (Chloe Benett). But no amount of spending time together did justice to the Christmas miracle that Santa created for them. As a viewer, I failed to connect to the story because it felt like a confusing series of events one after the other. The brothers have also got back on-screen after years of taking an acting sabbatical and it showed.
I am the same girl who once swooned over Shane Gray from Camp Rock and today the same trio couldn’t hold my attention for even a one hour film! A Very Jonas Christmas Movie really tries to be the Jonas Brothers’s show from back in the 2000s with a dash of Camp Rock but ends up being neither. With their real life better halves, which includes our very own Priyanka Chopra and their children, their sibling, Frankie Jonas and their parents all making cameos in the film, the movie feels like a Jonas Brothers family get-together at best. The only people who are going to re-watch this a few years later and feel all cozy and nostalgic are in fact all the Jonas'! From singing a Hindi version of Last Christmas in Gurinder Chaddha’sChristmas Karma to making a special appearance in this film as a doting Jonas wife, PC is giving it her all for marking her presence on our screens this Christmas, but maybe what we really need is a Hallmark movie with her as the lead!
The only two things that stood out to me in this movie were, blending some of their old songs every now and then in the story from the time when the band was actually at its peak and of course, Will Ferrell representing us fans! As a K-pop fan, his character resonated with the fan girl in me deeply! The spark in his eyes when he talks about buying official Jonas Brothers' merch, collector’s edition chocolates, or how it isn’t his family but his favourite artists who keep him going when life gets tough, was truly the highlight of the film for me!
Overall, while A Very Jonas Christmas Movie starts off as something promising and of great potential. It eventually feels like something that would get lost in the swarm of Christmas movies that are released during this time of the year!
