If you're looking for a feel-good show about female friendships and coming into your own, this isn't the right series for you.
Four More Shots Please season 4 review: Like you, I am flawed, I'm complicated, I make mistakes; I'm driven, resilient and yet I don't always have my head on my shoulder. I'm impatient, confused and I struggle to always do the right thing. And yet, this part of being human, of being a woman is rarely one I get to see on-screen. Cinema seldom leaves space for women to be their imperfect, messy, overtly complicated and 'living in their heads' selves and that's probably why when Indian shows attempt to represent that, this representation itself feels enogh to celebrate a series and watch it diligently since 2019, no matter how badly made it is.
Over the last 6 years, we've watched Siddhi consistently refuse to grow up; she's not comfortable in her skin, fat shamed by her mom and yet we've seen her trying to own her truth albiet in questionable ways. Anjana, the residential mumma, struggles to be chill because she'd had to grow up too soon. She's too uptight for her own good; however, we've watched her calm down gradually even if in moderation. Damini Rizvi Roy is perpetually angry; she's a journalist who's fed up of workplace politics and how the world works; she's closed off and doesn't love easily until love hits her in the face but she's the poster child of self sabotage. Then you have Umang aka Mangs, who is deeply problematic because she's said to be all heart but all we've seen so far is emotional outburts in moments that don't call for it. For this season, they're joined by Ash aka Ashokaditya(Kunaal Roy Kapur) and Rohan Wanse (Dino Morea), both of whom are wasted talent at best.
This season opens to Damini (Sayani Gupta), Siddhi (Maanvi Gagroo), Mangs(Gurbani) and Anjana(Kirti Kulhari) getting ready for Siddhi's wedding, something the makers have fully brushed past; was this to signify how little her own marriage mattered to her? Because that would've been quality storytelling and cinematography which this season didn't show any signs of. Following this, one thing happens after the other for no rhyme or reason and that's probably the only thing consistent about FMSP! Why have they made a pact that becomes the underlying theme of this last goodbye? Nobody knows! But you can ignore the cracks in this storytelling for only so long. This season specifically is let down by a poor script, senseless character arcs, chapters that come to an end without any buildup or closure, some making you questions why they were introduced at all.

No time was given for the plot to thicken, despite this season being spread across 7 episodes. Random things have been introduced and dived right into without any build up, like Ash's character, Siddhi's alternate career and also her marriage. Every character magically receives a happy ending without any of the self work and introspection they promised to do in episode 1. What was meant to be a last goodbye ends up mocking everything this show was trying to stand for, especially female friendships.
These relationships keep you sane; they uplift you, become your armour when you need one and definitely never fail to give you reality checks whether or not you asked for one; they keep you afloat when you feel like you're unable to swim against the tide. And as someone who's valued these very deeply over the years, it makes me so mad to see such a botched portrayal of this relatioship in Four More Shots Please, especially in the final season. At this point, this show sounds more like a mockery of everything womanhood than representation of who we are.
Four More Shots Please season 4 is streaming on Prime Video.
