With its haunting atmosphere and mood-driven narrative, the trailer reinforces Barve’s knack for inviting audiences to look beyond the surface and question the nature of appearances and truth.
The makers of the Jaaved Jaaferi starrer Mayasabha: The Hall of Illusion officially unveiled the film’s trailer on Wednesday. Directed by Tumbbad fame Rahi Anil Barve, the film is set inside a Mumbai theatre, where a producer, his son, and two intruders come face to face over the course of a single night. What begins as a hunt for hidden treasure soon spirals into a tense clash, as layers of deception unfold, long-buried secrets surface, and unresolved wounds from the past are laid bare.
Renowned for his evocative visual language and intricately layered storytelling, Barve once again delves into rich psychological and philosophical terrain. The film explores themes of power, perception, and the fragile boundary between reality and illusion, promising an immersive and thought-provoking cinematic experience.

The trailer begins on an intriguing note with Jaaferi affirming that ‘seekers are the last to identify what they were looking for’. He plays an enigmatic figure who hasn’t left a dilapidated movie theatre for decades, trying to recollect where he hid his treasure. The story revolves around four characters who are stuck inside the claustrophobic setting in search of something they are unlikely to find.
Speaking about the response so far, director Rahi Anil Barve said, “The love and curiosity around Mayasabha from the very first look has been deeply encouraging. This film has been a breathtaking journey for me-one that explores ideas meant to linger long after the screen fades to black. The trailer is our first true invitation into this world, and I’m grateful for the warmth it’s receiving.”
Sharing his experience, lead actor Jaaved Jaaferi added, “Mayasabha challenged me in ways I hadn’t experienced before. It’s not just a film-it’s an exploration of human nature, perception, and inner conflict. Collaborating with Rahi has been creatively enriching, and I’m excited for audiences to discover the world we’ve brought to life.”
The trailer of Mayasabha: The Hall of Illusion teases plenty of mystique and intrigue with profound dialogues, interesting character arcs, and immersive production values and comes across as an exciting big-screen experience. Besides Jaaferi, the film also stars Mohammad Samad, Deepak Damle and Veena Jamkar.
.Mayasabha will hit theatres on January 30
