Searching For Sheela on Netflix is an Indian documentary film created, directed, and executive produced by Shakun Batra. The film tries to trace the life of Ma Anand Sheela after she returns to India after 35 years. She was the spokesperson, secretary, and face of the Rajneesh movement. This film is backed by Karan Johar (Dharmatic Entertainment) and also has an interview with Ma Anand Sheela that she gave to him amongst others.
Ma Anand Sheela, if you all remember rose to fame from the previous Netflix documentary 'Wild Wild Country'. She is an influential aide and a titular figure to the spiritual leader Osho and in his multi-million dollar empire. Now she is back in India after 35 years to connect back to her roots. The one-hour film follows her on her journey to this reconnection and tells her story her way. The film also includes interviews with journalists like Barkha Dutt and Shoma Chaudhury.
It's almost a week since it's release. The netzines were quick to watch this tale of Ma Anand Sheela to get more insight into her. Here's what they felst after watching the film.
I enjoyed watching #SearchingForSheela precisely because it didn't answer all the questions. #MaAnandSheela proves that the true journey of healing is an inward journey which cannot (and should not) be based on repeating what, why and how the past was formed but on letting go.

#SearchingForSheela joins the list of countless Netflix shows based on rich people doing rich people things. I mean the segment where Bina Ramani was talking about Jessica Lal murder case, I wanted to teleport to Delhi and give her one tight slap.

#SearchingForSheela Watching this documentary made me feel hopeless but hopeful. Redemption shown in a completely different light! Extremely well made. Ma Anand Sheela is so many things but her clarity of thought and her spirit shone through. I wish her peace and freedom!

#SearchingForSheela on Netflix is interesting and heartfelt. It's an honest attempt at giving you a peek into who Sheela really is. I laughed and got teary eyed. Wonderfully done! @karanjohar @apoorvamehta18 @shakunbatra @MaAnandSheela1

I had huge expectations from #SearchingForSheela . I don’t know what they wanted to make and what was the purpose. Badly done, bad scripts. The lady and her refinement was literally mocked each time. Horrible is the word. Utter wastage of time ...

Watching #searchingforsheela was like drinking a can of coke but without the fizz. Not surprising that Dharma made her seem like the ideal hero, they could’ve done so much more with this documentary. Highly disappointed.

When Bollywood makes a documentary! pic.twitter.com/rkf6iROSaX
I saw #SearchingForSheela yesterday and have absolutely no sympathy for her, or for the rich Delhi socialites who fawn over her. Barkha Dutt and Shoma Chaudhary's softball questions and walking around eggshells while she shames them was so cringeworthy. This was so unnecessary.
