Karan Johar, Faye D' Souza, Sunny Leone, and Chetan Bhagat talk about doing a new adventure with Amazon Prime Video's One Mic Stand 2.

The line-up of Amazon Original One Mic Stand 2 has already created a buzz among the fans who have been ardently waiting to watch their favorite celebrities showcase their funny side. Well, the wait is finally over as One Mic Stand 2 is currently streaming on Prime Video from Friday. Season 2 of One Mic Stand will see the likes of Karan Johar, Sunny Leone, Raftaar, Chetan Bhagat, and Faye D’Souza taking the center stage as they bring out their inner stand-up comic. The show is about taking up phenomenal guests from different walks of life who are then mentored by talented comedians. This time with five phenomenal guests the jodis are Karan Johar - Sumukhi Suresh, Sunny Leone - Neeti Palta, Raftaar - Samay Raina, Chetan Bhagat - Abish Mathew, and Faye D’Souza - Atul Khatri.

Karan Johar

Talking about his experience on the show, filmmaker Karan Johar said, “Comedy is one of the most loved genres on streaming sites so naturally when I got a call to do One Mic Stand 2 I had to say yes. You know I’m always a sport when it comes to taking a joke and I finally got the opportunity to do that myself. I wanted to take up this challenge because I have been in front of the camera several times but this show is not even remotely close to what I have done in the past. I was especially attracted to the format of the show, which is perfect because I got a chance to connect with the audience more candidly. I think it’s beautiful to get artists from completely different worlds and immerse themselves in comedy while collaborating with a pro comic that shares the same like-mindedness and individuality. This is what resonates with the audiences making this show a complete hit.”

On working with his mentor Sumukhi Suresh, Karan said, “Sumukhi was such a blast to work with, her humor is always so well-timed. She understood my voice and guided me in writing a set that fit me like a glove, working with strong female voices is always enthralling, and we connected on our common love for creating content. Stand-up comedy has been on the rise in India in English and regional languages, this show moves in the right direction to accelerate this upcoming form of entertainment in India and hopefully inspire a lot of aspiring comics and open doors for them.”

Faye D'Souza

Sharing her experience of presenting a comedy act on stage, journalist Faye D’Souza said, “On popular demand, I’m back on screens but this time in a different format. This is also my first time connecting with people outside of a newsroom and a reporting environment. I have always loved to try something new but, it was difficult to shun the serious face and don the funny hat. But once I overcame that, nothing compared to the joy of getting people to laugh at your jokes. I was extremely nervous before I stepped on the stage.  Getting the right beat in your performance and delivering that in a manner that would resonate with the audience is intimidating but also a fun challenge.”

Talking about her mentor Atul Khatri, Faye said, “Atul is brilliant at what he does. He really taught me the tricks and intricacies of stand up in the short time we had to prepare. He was able to help me fine-tune the minute technicalities that went into making a set perfect, his intellect and humor are unparalleled and helped me shape my set.”

Sunny Leone

Talking about grabbing the opportunity to become a stand-up comedian, Sunny Leone says, “I have loved stand-up comedy and I have watched several shows here and abroad as well. Seeing a comedian perform on stage looks so simple and natural but the reality of how difficult it is to actually connect with audiences and make them crack on every joke is something I have learnt very closely now.  As an artist, I am always looking to try new things and showcase my skills to the audience in more ways than one, so when I got the chance to be on One Mic Stand 2 the show I grabbed it like a hawk.”

Sunny further adds about Neeti Palta, “I am always trying to showcase different sides of myself to my fans and my audience which is why I was attracted to this show in the first place. I thoroughly enjoyed the last season of One Mic Stand, I thought it was hilarious. The sets that the celebrity guests produced were excellent, so the pressure was on to match that level of finesse. I am used to remembering long dialogues and delivering them, but performing live has its own thrill. Stand-up comedy is scarier than falling on a ramp during a fashion show, imagine cracking a joke and nobody laughs, that was my biggest fear. I’ve gotta say, I learnt to take a joke or two on myself and saw the world around me in a lighter perspective. I’m glad to have collaborated with Neeti Palta, she has such a fresh take on every thing and she is a natural. Working with women is always fun because you understand each other's perspectives and experiences like nobody else and that’s what made my set work so well.”

Chetan Bhagat

Talking about his first ever performance in this show as a stand-up comedian, Chetan Bhagat said, “My books have inspired many Bollywood films, but after doing One Mic Stand 2 I realized the vast difference between writing and performing. Writing comes easy to me, however the performing arts especially stand-up comedy was an uncharted territory for me. I had no inhibitions going into it knowing that Abish Mathew was guiding me through the process. I have seen his work and I think it’s brilliant. He made a complete amateur like me sound like a pro comedian, and for that I think he deserves an award. Bollywood movies 3 Idiots and Hello, inspired by my books have been very successful on Amazon Prime Video and I hope that my first ever stand-up act enjoys similar success on the same platform.”

Chetan further adds, “Through the process I also learnt that a lot of jokes will stem from me. Making jokes on yourself and people laughing at it I believe is better than them making jokes on you. Whenever I get a chance to create magic with words I take it, as a writer I’m always on the hunt for exploring and learning about different human perspectives and psyches, One Mic Stand 2 was the perfect show for that. This has been an interesting journey of books to OTT for me, one filled with lots of learning and laughter.”
